We now have a page for the York Plaza.

Thanks. Do you know what were the last movies to be shown here?

I don’t understand why you added those three links to your comment.

Today’s Globe has a very small display ad for this movie and theatre (page G17) — but unfortunately also a one-star review that says:

“Irene in Time’’ is the initial first-run feature to debut at the Stuart Street Playhouse, Boston’s newest art house cinema. Both the theater and its audiences deserve much better.

Was this still open in 1992? I think I saw Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven here.

Any news on Vaud-Villities plans to reuse this theatre?

That “locally owned tri-plex” was the Forum, on the opposite side of Hamilton and Refugee roads from the mall.

The entire east side of Columbus is now bereft of cinemas, with the single exception of the 3-screen Drexel Theatre in Bexley.

In which case, the Status should be changed to “Open” and the description appropriately revised.

I always try to buy concessions at independent theatres such as the Brattle and Somerville, but I will always buy my candy and drinks at CVS before going to any big chain theatre.

Ron Newman commented about York Plaza Cinema on Nov 10, 2009 at 4:02 pm

The York Plaza had the same owners as the Graceland Twin Cinema, and they always advertised together.

Is any other business currently in the space where the cinema was?

If you happen to know the exact street address on East Livingston Ave, that will be quite helpful here.

if the Pythian Theatre ever showed movies, can you enter it into CinemaTreasures?

Looks like this site is now occupied by the City Center parking garage — the only successful part of the massive City Center shopping mall development, soon to be demolished.

When was this demolished and what is on the site now?

The outside of the building sure doesn’t give any indication that any business (such as a pharmacy) is operating inside. How do people know to go to these offices or businesses if they are not advertised on signs?

Answering my own question — I’m going to guess that the last live show was Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra’s A Night At the Rock Opera. I suspect the page that I just linked to won’t be around much longer, but it lists the run as being from April 18-June 27, 2009. I think it ran only on Saturday nights and some Friday nights.

Does anyone recall what was the last live stage production here, and what exact day it closed? This would be useful information to add to the Description above.

Yep, and their website (http://www.StuartStreetPlayhouse.com) now reflects the fact that it is a moviehouse rather than a live stage. I’m not sure if they are going to have one price for a double feature, or separate admissions.

Ron Newman commented about Tremont Temple on Oct 25, 2009 at 5:25 am

Definitely a church, as it is the fourth Tremont Temple to stand on this site. (See all the earlier comments.) It is listed here because it has also been used to show movies. Today it is still occasionally rented out for live performances.
