Hello-

I was at this theater this past weekend but went directly to the IMAX auditorium so I didn’t notice any construction around the Loews auditorium. speaking of which. regular adult movie theater tickets in Manhattan are already too frigging high. so all the new hyped up auditoriums such as Dolby Cinemas and 4DX at the Union Square are just ways to squeeze even more $$$ from the patrons. I’ve experienced both and the extra mark up in $$$ really didn’t make me enjoy the films in question better than if I had seen them in a regular auditorium with A+ projection and sound.

Hello-

I thank xbs2034 for replying. granted films rated PG before the creation of the PG-13 rating the fall of 1984 would certainly get a PG-13 today. but what surprised me was films with a G rating having more than one scene of bare butt nudity and in the case of the 1968 Planet of the Apes a very quick shot of everything where they’re swimming near the waterfall.

Hello-

I appreciate people replying to my original post. but it seems the intent was nothing correctly understood. I admitted I saw it at the Orpheum but wondered if people who saw it at the Lincoln Square had the same problem. so why would asking patrons their experience at the Lincoln Square belong on the Orpheum’s page?

Hello- to alpinedownhiller- I thank you for your reply. but I spoke to the manager of the Orpheum after the showing and he said it was the film itself and had nothing to do with their screening/projection of it.

Hello-

did the Dome screen the original 2hr 40min. cut of 2001? that’s what is implied by Roger A.’s use of the term “original roadshow version”.

Hello-

to Al A. you certainly have a valid point. I asked on this page to see if the problem existed in other theaters. in fact the film was so dark at times I couldn’t see who was talking. in one scene I only knew it was Paul Bettany because he has a very distinct voice.

Hello-

in reference to moviebuff82’s May 21 post. many “classics” weren’t rated till they first came out on home video. 2001 got a G rating i thought at least a PG since there’s the scene where one ape beasts another ape to death. also how did Ben-Hur get a G rating with the scene where Messala gets pounded into a cube steak the horse’s hoofs. also the original 1968 Planet of the Apes likewise got a G rating. yet there is a scene when the American astronauts land on what they think is an uncharted planet they bath in a pool underneath a waterfall naked and you get a very quick glimpse of everything.

Hello-

i saw Solo this past Sat. at the Orpheum. I thought it was THE DARKEST FILM i have ever seen. I complained to the Orpheum’s manager and he said its the film itself not their projection. have people who saw it here have the same experience?

Hello-

to Ed S. thank you for your reply. I was fortunate to have seem 2001 twice during its roadshow run at the Capitol on the gigantic curved Cinerama screen. I suppose every viewing of the film in a theater will be judged against those two viewings.

Hello-

to markp. I like your witty comment. I don’t see what would have been soooooooooooooo horrible if Nolan had restored the print before making the 70MM prints for the 50th Anniversary. is Nolan saying classic films should never be restored?

Hello-

to Howard B.–

I went to the 1:10p.m. screening on the opening day May 18th. unfortunately there was no program at all whether a freebie hand out or one for sale. since when the 70MM engagement of TPT opening at the Lincoln Square they had a rather nice freebie hand out I had my fingers crossed. but it didn’t work.

Hello-

to Howard B. do you know if a chart that will adjust for inflation? for instance A Daughter of the Gods produced by William Fox which opened Oct. of 1916 cost a cool $1,000,000 making it the most expensive film made up to that time. what would that $1,000,000 be today?

Hello-

I saw 2001 this past Sat. at the Village East. It was ! WOW !. but I noticed three slight rips. why would it have been so horrible if Nolan had repaired the rips. is Nolan saying classic films should never be restored?

Hello-

what would have been so horrible if Nolan had repaired the quite obvious scratches? he wouldn’t have changed the film just repaired it.

Hello-

to Bill H. thanks for noting the 7:30 show is
sold out. I made sure to reserve a seat for the
show most convenient for me.

since you mentioned it- why isn’t the late but
great Ziegfeld not liked by many members?

Hello-

two items-
*the Village East has shows every 3hrs. 10mins.
so they could fit in a 15 maybe 10min. intermission.

*since has articles have stated the film hasn’t been restored or remastered will I notice visual and audio imperfections?

Hello-

another thought on the 50th Anniversary. no matter how WOW the new print supervised by Nolan is are they opening it here or the Village East because the Loews auditorium at the Lincoln Square and auditorium 12 at Regal 42 St. can’t show 70mm?

Hello-

while walking past this theater the other day I had pangs of regret about the late but great Coronet/ Baronet, the Trans Lux East and the Sutton. now those closed and were demolished because the land became worth more than the theaters no matter popular could possibly bring in. so whenever I attend this theater I wonder how is it still here?

bigjoe59 commented about St. Francis Theatre & Baronet Theatre on May 14, 2018 at 4:53 pm

Hello-

the intro states that when this theater was twinned in 1968 the main auditorium downstairs retained the name while the upstairs auditorium was named the Baronet in honor of the recently closed Coronet/ Baronet in Manhattan. the Coronet/Baronet didn’t close till 2001.

Hello-

to markp thank you your reply. as I said in a recent post unless the newly remastered 70MM print of 2001 personally supervised by Nolan is shown in a theater with a really big screen why bother? to repeat myself its like showing a newly remastered 70MM print of Lawrence of Arabia at the Cinema 2.

bigjoe59 commented about Loew's Capitol Theatre on May 7, 2018 at 4:30 pm

Hello-

to Bill H. I recently saw Ready Player One at the main auditorium of the Village East. it didn’t impress as being anywhere near the size of screen at the Ziegfeld. since the Ziegfeld is no longer with us the place to show Nolan’s personally supervised frame by frame digital restoration of 2001 in 70MM would be the Loews auditorium at the Loews Lincoln Square or auditorium 12 at the Regal 42 St.

Hello-

while I’m looking forward to Nolan’s supervised frame by frame re-mastering of 2001 for the 50th Anniversary since they’re releasing it in theaters shouldn’t it play in theaters with really big screens? in NYC its playing the main auditorium of the Village East which isn’t an especially large screen.

bigjoe59
bigjoe59 commented about Loew's Capitol Theatre on May 6, 2018 at 4:27 pm

Hello-

I remember seeing 2001 twice during its roadshow engagement “in Cinerama” at this theater and a few years later at the in 70mm at the Ziegfeld. my point being simple- since Nolan supervised a frame by frame re-mastering for the 50th Anniversary why show it at a theater unless it has a really big screen? its kind of like doing a frame by frame digital re-mastering of Lawrence of Arabia and showing it at the Cinema 2.
