From Alamo Drafthouse Press Release:We haven’t had much news to share with you all about our new theater on Staten Island, but the so-called Forgotten Borough is forgotten no longer. We are excited to announce that construction is wrapping up at our newest New York City outpost at The Boulevard shopping plaza on Hylan Boulevard.
Our last update on our Staten Island theater was – checks notes – 2018 (?!), when we revealed the concept behind our RZA-curated, kung-fu-themed bar The Flying Guillotine (named after the Shaw Bros. classic MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE). Rest assured, though, that our design and construction teams have been hard at work on this action-packed new location.
Like all Alamo Drafthouse cinemas, our Staten Island theater will offer a full food and drink menu with appetizers, entrees, and desserts available, as well as full bar options including innovative cocktails, spirits, award-winning milkshakes, and a huge selection of local draft beers brought right to your seat by our amazing ninja servers. Staten Island will be home to 9 screens ranging in size from 200 seats to 37, with a total of 893 fully-reclining seats for you to enjoy the latest Hollywood blockbusters, indie titles, classics, not-so-classics, foreign films, insane rediscoveries, restorations, rarities, documentaries, cult stuff, music stuff, interactive parties (whew) and lots more. From family-friendly sing-a-longs to B-movie trash, it’s all under one gigantic roof here in Staten Island. And, yes, there will be 35mm!
In addition to a vast menu of beers, wines and cocktails, The Flying Guillotine bar will also feature a video store offering free rentals from an exhaustive collection of titles, including martial arts classics personally curated by RZA. It’ll also have an archive of memorabilia and posters that cover the vast span of kung fu film history.
OK, so your next question is probably going to be, “When do you open?” We don’t have a solid opening date and don’t want to commit to anything just yet, but things are progressing very quickly, so let’s just say it will be sooner rather than later. There still are a few minor things to be finished before we can start showing movies, but below you’ll find a few photos giving you a sneak peek at what all is happening inside the theater. We have a lot of fun stuff planned to celebrate our opening and to stay up to date on an exact opening date and any special events, sign up for Alamo Victory at drafthouse.com/victory.
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A treasured Brooklyn movie theater has closed after serving the community for more than two decades.
The Regal UA Court Street theater shuttered its doors earlier this month, reportedly without warning, taking many by surprise.
Rendy Jones, a 23-year-old Crown Heights resident, described as a “movie buff” by The New York Times, told the outlet he cried when he first heard the news on Twitter that the theater had closed.
“I started going there before I could even walk, either with my mom or dad,” he said. “I still have my ticket stubs. I’m looking at them now.”
Last week, a spokesperson for Madison International Realty, the property owner, said it “shared the community’s disappointment in the sudden closing of the Regal theater. We are in the process of assessing the situation and gathering more information.”
In a statement, Regal Cinemas said that it was forced to make the decision after it failed to reach an agreement with the landlord on a new lease, “reflecting the need for a major and very costly renovation” at the 13-story megaplex.
“Unfortunately, Regal was not able to reach an agreement with the landlord on a fair and sustainable rent that would have allowed for the very significant renovation investment needed,” a company spokesperson said. “Since the term of the lease had ended and the negotiations with the landlord failed, we instead had to close the location.”

From 4 Star Theatres facebook pageHello friends & neighbors! We wanted to update you on some excellent 4 Star news!
On Wednesday we went to the legendary Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, where so many of the world’s greatest albums were recorded and the greatest movies mixed, and picked up TWO GORGEOUS 35MM PROJECTORS for the 4 Star Theater! The wonderful people at the Berkeley FILM Foundation donated them to the theater and gave us an amazing tour through the hallowed ground of Fantasy Studios! Having twin 35mm projectors at the 4 Star will give us the ability to project in changeover style, which will give us access to so many incredible 35mm films. We are truly thrilled and grateful!
Renovation of the 4 Star is moving along briskly, and we feel like we are still on track for a summer 2022 reopening!!!
As always, you can check in on the Balboa Theater, Vogue Theater, 4 Star, and Park at CINEMASF.CO

The Regal Branford is headed for the last picture show, slated to close on Sunday, employees of the East Main Street multiplex theater told Hearst Connecticut Media on Tuesday.
Samantha Bruneau, who has worked at the theater for five years, called the closure “pretty sad.”
“Since the pandemic we’re just not where we used to be with the numbers,” Bruneau said as she worked as a ticket taker on Tuesday afternoon. “We were always very busy up until this point.”
The theater’s manager declined to comment on how many people would be losing their jobs as a result of the closure. He referred all questions to Regal’s U.S. headquarters in Knoxville, Tenn., where multiple phone calls made by Hearst Connecticut Media seeking comment went unanswered.
The 12-screen theater opened in 1998 as a Hoyt’s Cinema. It became a Regal theater when the Tennessee-based chain acquired Hoyt’s, which was owned by an Austrlian-based company, in March 2003.
According to the theatre, hopefully they plan to open in April 2022.
