NYozoner commented about Ellis Drive-In on Jan 22, 2011 at 2:21 am

According to this site:
http://www.driveins.org/de-wilmington-ellis.html

This drive-in operated as the Brandywine Drive-In from 1949-1955, and then was renamed the Ellis Drive-In after Philadelphia-based Ellis Theatres assumed operation, and went by Ellis Drive-In until closing in 1965.

Depending on your outlook, the heading should read either;
Ellis Drive-in, AKA Brandywine Drive-In,
or
Brandywine Drive-In, AKA Ellis Drive-In.

My preference is the former, since it went by Ellis Drive-In more recently, and for more year than Brandywine Drive-In, not that it makes very much difference either way.

NYozoner commented about Starlite Drive-In on Jan 20, 2011 at 7:52 pm

Both the Starlite Drive-In and Comet Drive-In opened in spring 1948 on Hwy 7, ¼ west of Sulphur. They were across the street from each other, with the Comet on the north side and the Starlite to the south. Only one survived into the 1960s, the Comet, as the Starlite had disappeared in the 1960 aerial photo.

Here is a 1954 aerial photo showing both drive-ins, courtesy of Earth Explorer and USGS:

NYozoner commented about Sky Vue Drive-In on Jan 19, 2011 at 11:16 pm

Grand opening was on Sept 1, 1952, as the Park Vu Drive-In. Ownership changed in 1955, and drive-in was renamed to Sky Vue.

My suggestion is the change the name of this listing to Sky Vue Drive-in, also known as Park Vu Drive-In, as the drive-in spent most of its 30+ year lifetime known as the Sky Vue, while going by Park Vu for only 3 years.

The location of the drive-in is on US 60, east of Nowata.

U.S. 60 & N4160 Rd, Nowata, OK 74048

The above address will map to the nearest intersection, with the drive-in being on the north side of US 60, roughly .2 miles west of the intersection.

The drive-in is clearly visible on Google Earth using 2003 or earlier imagery.

NYozoner commented about Bi-State Drive-In on Jan 19, 2011 at 10:49 pm

The drive-in is less than half a mile from the state line, hence the name Bi-State Drive-in.

However, the drive-in is not in Nash, but is north of Medford. Nash is about 30 miles southwest of the drive-in.

U.S. 81 & E0020 Rd, Medford, OK 73759

The above address will map to the location of the nearest intersection, which places the drive-in on the west side of US-81 approximately .6 miles to the north of the intersection.

The drive-in is also clearly visible on Google Earth using 2003 or earlier imagery.

NYozoner commented about Tinker Drive-In on Jan 19, 2011 at 10:07 pm

The address “2301 N. Air Depot Boulevard, Midwest City, OK” was way off, and there were no drive-ins on or near N. Air Depot Rd, according to 1954 aerial photos.

The S. Airport Rd address puts the drive-in just a few blocks away from Tinker AFB Airport, and there just happens to be a drive-in visible there in the 1954 aerial photo.

“2301 N. Air Depot Boulevard” might have been valid in 1950, but is does not map anywhere near the correct location today.

NYozoner commented about Tinker Drive-In on Jan 19, 2011 at 10:00 pm

This is a comment given on Facebook for the drive-ins of Midwest City;

“In the 1950s MWC had two outdoor drive in theaters. The Bomber Drive In at the SW corner of Douglass & 15th Street & The Tinker Drive In West side of Air Depot at Adair Blvd.Both Theaters were busy on weekends.”

Using that information, the correct address for the Tinker Drive-in should be:

S Air Depot Blvd & Adair Blvd, Midwest City, OK 73110

Walmart is on the site of the Tri-State Drive-In, a different drive-in which was located on the north end of Miami on Hwy 69.

The Sooner Drive-In was about .5 miles southwest of Miami, also on Hwy 69.

NYozoner commented about Carlton Drive-In on Jan 19, 2011 at 8:29 pm

The Sky Vu was renamed the Carlton in March 1959. This listing should be merged into the Carlton Drive-In listing, as it was called the Sky Vu from 1950-59, and the Carlton from 1959 until its closing in the early 1980s.
