MORE ON THE WHITE HORSE DRIVE-In. I thought at one time it was a Plitt Theatre, but after talking with my Cousin,Ray Rogers. He stated it was run by EXHIBITORS SERVICE COMPANY.Which in the late 50’s operated out of Jacksonville,Fla. Exhibitors Service Company ran the book keeping of Ray’s Theatres in HENDERSONVILLE,N.C. He said Frank Jones was the main booker and stayed there until the Litchfield Company hired him.
I drove by one time going home. It was closed for good.I snapped a couple of pictures. Under the screen there was a nice apartment for the Manager to live in.

After I would pass the VIKING DRIVE-in In Anderson S.C. in about 40 minutes i would pass the WHITE HORSE DRIVE-in on my way to East Tennessee with my family. You could see the Viking Screen clearly{until they ran X rated product.} THE White Horse was on a very busy four lane highway and pretty much kept to And Greenville PG product, since I am sure they had no lights to blank the screen, and it wasn’t out in the sticks like the VIKING DRIVE-IN in Anderson,S.C.{On CT} And of South Carolina cities Greenville would be the most Conservative and would not put up with a Drive-in in that location showing SMUT. I remember “THE TOY” playing there going down the road.

I was hoping Nick would print that picture and or the MODJESKA shot of the marquee being rippied down, but last time i checked he hasn’t. I think I mailed one to you.But you have done so much for NATIONAL HILLS and COLUMBIA 1and2. You are right about Bill, outside of Me ,I really don’t think there is anyone in this city that knows the history from,in my case 1974 to 1980 on theatres and Drive-ins. Bill Barkley’s Knowledge spans decades.

I know we never worked across the street, but wouldn’t mind having a MILLER shirt. I had a “SAVE THE MODJESKA” t-shirt from the late 70’s.Wish I would have saved it instead of wearing it. I had a graphic from a newspaper ad that wanted to have made into T-Shirts and give them away to our ABC/Plitt Theatre gang, but money got tight and I never went to check prices, but still have the ad with the IMPERIAL logo on it. You could print that group shot of our reunion last fall here on the IMPERIAL site. I am going to look for a few things to give to the FRIENDS OF THE MILLER. THings I saved from the Dumpster on Ellis Street.

If i recall correctly,Nick told me Regal opened a 20 plex for a couple of years before closing it.I think a lot of cities are overscreened no matter what the size of the city.
