I’d say their IMAX screen still rakes in a lot of dough.

KingBiscuits commented about AMC Springfield 11 with IMAX on Jun 1, 2008 at 2:08 pm

I also will add that I snuck into a showing of Mean Girls here (walked out after fifteen minutes because it was that bad) and recently saw Iron Man at an advance screening and Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay here.

Meanwhile, the theatre is back to Dickinson branding but haven’t seen if anything’s changed yet. Goodrich kept it almost as is, even the carpet is still Dickinson branded.

KingBiscuits commented about Quad Cinema on Jun 1, 2008 at 4:44 am

Recently, the Quad was one of the few theatres to run Uwe Boll’s Postal. This was because AMC and Regal refused to show it. Boll must have paid them a lot of money to run it.

Recently saw Under The Same Moon here. Also a great film.

KingBiscuits commented about Tower Theatre on May 22, 2008 at 2:04 pm

That may never happen. KGBX is one of the city’s top radio stations and they could never be evicted.

KingBiscuits
KingBiscuits commented about AMC Springfield 11 with IMAX on May 22, 2008 at 2:02 pm

IMAX is going to be added to this theatre and possibly DLP/REAL-D as well. It was purchased mainly after plans for a new theatre were canceled due to lack of space.

I remember that scene in Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Pointless, like the rest of the film.

David Daly was also the Springfield News-Leader’s film critic during his tenure at SMSU (now Missouri State University).

KingBiscuits commented about A car dealership with a movie theater? on May 12, 2008 at 8:17 pm

It’s probably a screening room that plays DVD’s and commercials.

KingBiscuits commented about Another viable option for cinemas on May 3, 2008 at 12:56 am

This played at the Springfield 8 but I didn’t see how well it did, because I was seeing Iron Man.

KingBiscuits
KingBiscuits commented about Merger to bring more Asian Cinema to U.S. on May 1, 2008 at 5:51 am

The state that I live in has almost no exhibition of Bollywood titles. Kansas City runs a few, St. Louis runs most of them but for only two days and the times never appear in the paper (Saawariya was an exception because Sony distributed it) and Springfield is so xenophobic that you can forget about it. Hopefully they build a Indian theatre in Kansas City or St. Louis or start distributing titles wider and for longer. Maybe even some decent video distribution (as in, video stores actually carry them) will happen.

Denis Quad was good in Great Balls Of Fire and The Rookie.

KingBiscuits commented about Gillioz Theatre on Apr 29, 2008 at 12:30 pm

I saw The Wizard Of Oz here on Friday. I saw it in the balcony and the people involved really put out all of the stops here. 35mm print (from the 1998 reissue), introduction by actors playing characters, bubbles provided during Glinda’s scenes and the air conditioning going at full-blast during the tornado scene.

Great experience.

KingBiscuits commented about Regency Bruin Theatre on Apr 29, 2008 at 3:38 am

According to a picture seen in the documentary on the Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III DVD, that film (Leatherface) played at this theatre.

KingBiscuits commented about More 3-D films coming on Apr 28, 2008 at 11:49 pm

Spy Kids 3-D is actually the highest grossing 3-D film ever, despite having been released in the red/blue format.

Losing one theatre does not mean the end of the world. Sometimes people can be really stupid.

There’s life and there’s everything else. Sometimes, the fate of the world is better than saving a theatre that probably won’t be saved anyway.

KingBiscuits commented about Town & Country 6 Theatre on Apr 23, 2008 at 12:25 pm

The other two were Cocoon: The Return and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. And the Springfield 8 played five 70mm titles, Far and Away in first run and special one-week runs of Batman, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, Die Hard 2 and Patriot Games in 1993.

KingBiscuits commented about Old Orchard Theatre on Apr 16, 2008 at 5:55 am

This theatre is mentioned in “Tiny Toons Adventures: How I Spent My Summer Vacation” as being the film’s only theatrical screening. Was it really screened or was it a well-researched gag?

KingBiscuits commented about American Theater on Apr 11, 2008 at 6:52 pm

To the poster above, that should be June 16th, 1995 and Batman Forever instead of Batman Begins.
