Thanks, BigJoe. The Phantom Thread ebay link describes that booklet as 24 pages. The Hateful Eight program that I have is 14 pages, counting from cover to back. All of these current booklets (Victoria and Abdul included) being discussed have been free, whereas in the original Roadshow days those souvenir programs were purchased. It is really is delightful that studios are going to the effort to provide these nice materials for moviegoers.

From what I’ve read elsewhere (email from AFI Silver), The Phantom Thread program is freely handed out. I attended last weekend at Paris of Victoria & Abdul but did not know of any program. What did Victoria & Abdul program look like? a real program like The Hateful Eight one? or a couple page brochure?

Movie buff – in this day and age 25 is old. Seems as though they are leveled around this time. The Brookhaven Multiplex on Long Island was history after 18 years; the Commack Multiplex made it a bit longer. The Green Acres, Sunrise and Patchogue Multiplexes were also leveled. Shore in Huntington and the Lynbrook and Southampton are tear down and rebuilds. The Fantasy in Rockville Centre and the Roosevelt Field were gutted and rebuilt some years ago. To a large degree AMC did that with the Glen Cove this past year. Have to see what happens with the three older multiplexes, two in Farmingdale and the Regal Ronkonkoma. Westbury and Deer Park are less than a dozen years old.

They need to renovate for next year when this theater turns 25.

I was shocked to learn the nearby Lincoln Plaza Cinema is closing at the end of January because the landlord say construction work is necessary on the 30 year old building. the article i read said the Lincoln Plaza was also getting competition from the more recent Bruin Monroe Film Center opposite Julliard. i have been to both theaters and don’t remember the 6 year old Bruin Monroe Film Center ever playing what can best be called major low budget indies and foreign films. as an example- I don’t remember the Bruin Monroe Film Center ever playing a low budget indie or foreign film on the same level as the Lincoln Plaza’s current films- Mudbound, Wonder Wheel or Darkest Hour.

Dolby has the advantage of the Video wall entrance and the souround sound being in the recliner as those Auditorums use an Dolby designed seat and not the normal AMC recliners. you cant see it here in dolby though the only open NYC location for Dolby cinema is the AMC Empire 25 with AMC Loews 34th Street 14 listed as coming soon.

I saw “Star Wars:The Force Awakens” in a commercial movie theater, not in an Imax, so I can’t compare as they have different format sound systems. The new Star Wars movie is fun.

IMAX 3D is thw best

Which theater is better for Last Jedi? IMAX 3D (3D=yuck) or Dolby Digital?

We saw Dunkirk in IMAX. It was one of the great cinematographic experiences of my life. Blade Runner 2049 was good too although there was something rattling toward the front left during loud scenes, maybe a blown speaker coil or a loose ceiling tile or something.

Just one little note for people (like me) seeing The Last Jedi in IMAX here this weekend. While the film did use IMAX cameras for select sequences, it will be a locked scope presentation, and the screen will not be filled for any of those sequences.

Apparently, the director found the aspect ratio switches distracting when he was finishing the movie, and people who’ve seen the film in the UK mentioned there are no IMAX aspect ratio switches.

I’m happy that the audience turned out for the 70mm presentation of MOTOE. Not the case for Justice League in 70 at the Cinerama. Although, it’s been many years since I spent three weeks straight making changeovers in a manual 70mm booth it has been a lot of fun! It would be nice if we had more of an audience though.
