Looks like Cars 2 will still be in liemax this weekend as Transformers 2 will be only in good 3D and digital 2D. Larry Crowne opens this weekend, followed by Zookeeper and Horrible Bosses next week, both of which will fail. Then next week, it’s Potter vs. Pooh in battle of the family movie event of the summer. Good thing Pooh isn’t in fake 3D since it’s good old Disney animation. It will be the first digital 2D animation film that Rockaway has shown. I don’t mind the 3D in the Harry Potter movie, it makes it look immersive. Tickets are selling really well for Potter. I can’t wait.
I know. AMC also provides Descriptive Video Service, Listening devices, closed captioning, and wheelchair access, although there are fewer seats in the front for people to move into than at non-stadium seating theaters in the back, making the picture somewhat blurry to those who sit there. The good thing is that the arcade machines don’t bleed noise into the auditoriums, which only get rumbles from adjoining screens, specifically the LieMAx screen, which AMC should’t have installed. Perhaps an ETX screen would do.
Guess you will never know when you hit two thousand posts.Justin.
Check this out… http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118038975?categoryid=3764&cs=1&cmpid=RSS|News|LatestNews&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter can’t wait to see Transformers 3 in extra-bright 3d!!!
Saw xmen prequel in digital. No amc preshow or policy trailers, just trailers and movie. Movie looked sharp and sounded great. I think IMAX and 3d are rip offs at this theater.
The next IMAX movie after Super 8, Cars 2, and Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, to play here will be Harry Potter 7.2, in IMAX 3D, Real D 3D, and DLP
The next liemax movie to play will be Super 8 next week, followed hopefully by Cars 2, which has no advance tickets for IMAX. Green Lantern in 3D and 2D tickets are on sale. Soon, Transformers 3D, 2D, and Liemax 3D will arrive. I hope THe Tree of Life comes to this theater. It was shot on digital film and judging by the trailers, it looks like it’s meant to be seen on the big screen, just like the new x-men movie, which is getting great reviews. Best part it’s not in 3D or imax.
on movietickets.com, several movies are featured with a film icon, which stands for Digital Film Format, as well as a 3d icon for digital 3d.
Hey Justin, is this you, moviebuff82? On the old site it showed your name. And now mine shows up as MarkP instead of movie534 and I dont know how to change it back
The Google Street View is wrong. It doesn’t show the AMC theater, just a rural street.
BTW, midnight showings of Hangover 2 are sold out on three screens.
Hello. Seems that AMC is having issues projecting 2d movies using 3d lenses. Hopefully AMC fixes this soon.
Final Destination 5 is coming out this August, two years after the last one came out. Like that one, it was also shot in 3D, and was one of the first 3D movies to play at this theater when AMC installed the RealD 3D projectors.
It was shown at 2.40:1 on the IMAX screen. Pirates 4 was sharp and Super 8 was bright. They mightve changed lenses somewhat.
also your comment hints that Fast Five used all the 1.78:1? When I saw it on the IMAX there it looked like it was shown at maybe 2.40:1 on the IMAX screen.
@Justin – you say you saw Fast Five on the IMAX screen. I’m curious about how sharp you thought it looked. I saw the Pirates trailer right before FF started and it looked quite sharp but then Fast Five never looked as sharp to me. Was it the same story when you saw it? FF didn’t look as sharp as the Pirates trailer?
I’m trying to figure out if the focusing got knocked off a trace once the feature started or if they maybe they shot FF with some new HD movie vid-cams that didn’t have top notch res or if hollywood is now starting to scrub away fine crispness by using DNR even on theatrical digital release ‘prints’ now like they all too often do on blu-rays in an irrational fear that the audience see any grain/noise at all.
(Oh and yeah I love vampire stuff (maybe not Twilight so much, for the most part) but Priest 3D just looks pretty bad to me too, no interest.)
(Top Gun was PACKED on Monday (and it looked they extened it to run all week as a special at this theater alone?). I bet it had 210 out of 250 seats or so filled.)
Coming this weekend, Priest 3D. It was first shot in 4k 2D then converted into fake 3D….this movie will do worse than Blade Trinity. Bridesmaids will do good business for female moviegoers this weekend, it will do for women what Wedding Crashers did for guys. I can’t wait to see “The Hangover Part II” at this theater since I missed out on enjoying the first one (I eventually saw it on DVD). JJD, have you seen any good films yet at this theater?
Thanks Justin, moviegoers well behaved,Wow.
For those who don’t want to see Thor in fake 3D and Liemax 3D, there’s a 2D version.
I went to see Fast Five last night at a nearly packed house in IMAX. Prior to each showing they have a line barrier for those wait in line to get their seats after they purchase the ticket. Once we got in, I sat all the way up to the second-to-back row of the theater, in middle row. The preshow frame was projected smaller on the screen, more to the upper left corner of the screen rather than fill the IMAX screen. During transitions from preshow to don’t talk on the phone, there was a blue screen, which was kinda annoying. The trailers didn’t use up the full ratio of the imax screen, just in scope. The movie looked and sounded good on the IMAX screen, and the audience behaved and cheered well. Watch after the main credits for a bonus scene!!!
This weekend, Fast Five will crush the competition. I plan on seeing this movie in IMAX tomorrow night if it’s not sold out. Even though it’s not filmed in IMAX, I can be sucked into the picture and car noises amped up to the max.
Happy easter!!!
Well I was just at the mall and peeked in to set what was on the IMAX (they have nothing listed as IMAX past the 1PM showing of Born Wild 3D) and it sure looked like Water For Elephants on the IMAX screen to me. I’m sure WFE is not playing on any of the true IMAX screens but in the digital theaters they sometimes swap around as fit. They don’t feel Born Wild 3D does enough business for the evening shows now so they need to make use of one of the larger seating capacities and there are no other IMAX films out so they just put whatever they feel fills seats I think and it seems like they decided on WFE, at least for this Saturday evening.

If I’m correct, Fast Five will be taking over the IMAX screen at Rockaway 16, not Water for Elephants. Is WFE playing on any IMAX screen?
