I guess something to consider when determining “the popularity factor” would be one’s generation. Grease would most likely be more popular with a younger generation than The Sound of Music. By today’s standards though I would say that Gen Y and Gen I would sooner relate to Grease than The Sound of Music. So give it another 15-20 years and Grease will be more popular than the Sound of Music, if it is not already.
I bought the DVD for my birthday and to my surprise I was told it is a “classic”. Geez has 30 years gone by? Not sure at what point movies become a “classic”. Anyone I love this movie. I have seen it many times. I love the story, dialogu, music dancing, acting. What I could not get into was Grease 2. Now that was lame.
Does anyone have a pic of this theatre. I may have been here as a young child during a summer visit with my cousins in Crytal Lake. This is where I first saw Grease. I rememeber my cousins and I singing the songs from the movie that summer. I had a blast.
Ok…I remember this too. I used to go this theatre a lot in my teen years. I remember seeing Saturday Night Fever there, Child’s Play…to name a few. This theatre was popular in the 80’s. Maria
I remembe this theatre oh so well, as a child. I lived real close by the theatre. I remember as a little girl, my older brothers used to see Kung Fu movies there. I remember some Bruce Lee movies, maybe something like “Revenge of the Dragon”. I also remember that sometime later they played what my mom called “strange movies” with the title of “Emmanuelle” in it. We moved away after that and I only rememeber it as a theatre. If anyone has on an old picture to post, that would be great. Maria
I am not sure I exactly where the Sheridan Plaza is/was but you guys sure threw me a blast from the past mentioning the Omni. That was one of my first “date theatres”. I remember the merry go round they used to have and the arcade area. Wow! Anyone have any pics to share?
To “Love Movies-hate going”. I used to have to play chaperone to my older sister on dates, thanks to my mom but I have to say, given that I got to see a few movies I might not have otherwise seen. I remember seeing Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band because my sister had a big crush on Peter Frampton (yuk) John Travolta was cute. Anyway, I go to see “Tommy” too. I loved both movies. I really loved the Bee Gees. They recorded their famous Saturday Night Fever Album in what was Criteria Recoding studio, now called Hit Factory here in Miami, Florida. Maria

The director, Randal Kleiser also directed “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble” with John Travolta.

Can anyone confirm or deny that the the theatre has closed down?
Where was the very first drive in? What city, state?

Al,
Could it be Dadeland Twin, across from Dadeland, east of Palmetto, on the south side?
