Does anyone know if there was a theater across from the Bushwick?

I got a copy of The Believers just so I can see the RKO Bushwick.

I don’t many people will go out there for the bollywood movies. I am sure that the ‘new’ policy is just to throw off the blood hounds.

And it was worth every last dollar I paid.
I won’t go into details but I had some GREAT times there.
Good to the last drop.

Rudy Guiliani had enough time to ‘clean’ up Times Square and f**** around with a woman who wasn’t his wife. How’s that for morals?

I think they are showing those bollywood films to appease the church next door. But the Fair is no longer the place to go to have some fun. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays the place was packed. Now it is limp.

Once management hiked the price from $9.00 to $15.00 it drove many away. On weekends the Fair was packed. But now even on a weekend the crowds aren’t what they used to be.

I went there last week and I was puzzled by all the posters advertising Bollywood movies. I must return next week before they change over to Bollywood films. At least they’re not tearing down the theater. Perhaps now they’ll open up the balconey.

Yes, those yuppies think that they are living in the greatest era of the human race. Perhaps that is being over dramatic but since this is all they know I guess we have to be a bit understanding.
Manhattan has become a giant amusement park with little character.
Thank God for memories.

It is like another world in there. I remember the first Adonis on 50th and 8th. That was hughe. Did anyone hear the story about the man who was found beaten to death in a seedy motel in the Bronx? Turns out he was a big shot for a big tenant at the World Wide Plaza complex that was built on the site of the old Madison Square Garden. The man demanded that the developers of WWP buy the building that housed the Adonis and close it. He said his firm would not lease the space in their building if they didn’t do it. He felt that The Adonis was not appropriate for his employer. It later came out that the same man enjoyed sex with men and liked it rough. Many times, his former co-workers, recall him coming to work bruised about the face and he claimed it was due to being mugging. Everything comes out.

I am sorry that I didn’t see the theater while it was still showing porn. It would have been interesting to say the least.

To Charlieq, thanks for those great pics.
To BillH, this site is intended for sharing our memories of neighborhood movie theaters.

How sad that they don’t incorporate the theater into the condos. It would be a great place to hold meetings.

I passed yesterday and it was sad. They have already demolished part of one wall and I saw the men working on tearing down dear old Commodore Theater. I want to take some pics next week.
I have a page on www.myspace.com and will post them there.
It was at that theater that I saw The Exorcist, Saturday Night Fever.
The next theater that will be demolished will be The Rainbow on Graham Avenue. There is already a for sale sign. All over the neighborhood there are condos going up. No doubt the land on which the Rainbow sits on is very valuable.
The new construction is ugly. Imagine what they are going to charge people to live in those tiny apartments.

Hey RobertR. You first enter through a door that is on street level and you climb a two short flights to the ‘ticket booth’.

Does anyone know of a theater that was located by Grand Street and Grand Street Extention. I am not sure of the exact cross street but it is not far from the Commodore Theater. There is now a gas station on the land. The Q54 (formally the B53) runs down Grand Street.

I visited the Ascot during its final days as a house of porn. I remember it was quite large inside. Who knows but maybe it can be resurrected once the Grand Concourse is rehabilitated. The Paradise has just been reopened. This is a great time to buy a co-op in the area as in a few years it will become a hot neighborhood.
