Vokoban, I had permission from the owner to take a look at the auditorium by the support of the LA Conservancy.
I’ll send you the contact info by email.

We’ve been inside the auditorium last week (thanks to the owner), which is behind a clothes store and not used as storage like the Cameo and Arcade. There is still the original ornamentations on the stage, light fixtures on the sides were certainly modified in the 50’s and there is no remaining seats on the orchestra (we’ve not been on the balcony). The curtain is still there too.

We’ve been inside the theater this week by walking in the back alley. The stage part is gutted and there is no remaining seats, even on the balcony, but the ceiling and walls are almost intact with the ornamentations still in place. Projectors were removed.
The 2 lobbies were altered but still recognizable.
Except for the grocery in the corner, the entire block including the theater and other former storefronts are vacant.

We got the same problem about getting inside the auditorium last November for our photographic project…

Thank you for your comments !
Monical, it’s a pretty little exhibition of about ten prints of 95x120cm. I can send you a catalog by email if you want.
Sean, nice to read from you here ! We hope to see you again in some weeks !

We went to the Empire Theater two weeks ago and the friendly boss of Farrell Lumber company accepted us to go inside the auditorium.
It’s used as storage but keeped its original ceiling with little ornaments, even if the theater had a very simple design.
Projector room is still there too but was stripped from any projectors or original artifacts.

We went to the Eagle Theater three weeks ago and saw what’s remaining. They nicely reused the space and preserved a lot of things including plaster works on walls and ceiling. They are using both orchestra floor and balcony for retail so you can easily walk in. There are also two old Peerless projectors still remaining in the projector room.
Nice visit and the managers were friendly too. Let’s take a look if you’re in the area !

We went to the theater two weeks ago and the ABC store that occupied the former lobby was still closed. Somebody in a shop in front told that he went inside the auditorium some years ago and beautiful architecture is still there. If anybody has news or see something happening, we would be really interested to know !

We went to the theater two weeks ago and the manager didn’t allow us to get inside the auditorium used as storage as seen on the pictures above. Is anybody has any informations or contact that could help us getting inside ?

We went to the former Paramount one week ago and they are doing work on the shops that occupies the former lobby (no closing anyway).
The friendly manager accepted us to take a quick look thru orchestra floor (no remaining seats) to the auditorium which is not in too bad shape, even if there are some holes in the ceiling. The architectural style inside is pretty classic, painted red and white and not art deco like the façade.

We visited the buildings two weeks ago and the already gutted theater was being demolished. The ballroom is in really advanced state of decay and almost nothing remains from the original architecture inside.

We went to the Luxor Theater two weeks ago and the orchestra floor houses a supermarket. You can notice forms of the balcony repainted in black. Managers kindly led us to the upper part which is used as storage space and the original ceiling and plaster works are still there, in clean state despite it was repainted in white.

We went inside the Freeman Theater two weeks ago and nothing is remaining as it’s totally dilapidated (certainly due to water damage after years of vacancy).

We went to the Crotona Theater two weeks ago and one of the managers kindly led us inside the auditorium part, which is now used as storage space for their textile manufacturing. Unfortunately, almost nothing remains from the original architecture as the ceiling and plaster was removed.

We went to the site two weeks ago but the auto shop moved and the theater is now closed. The manager of the adjoining hotel said it will be demolished and didn’t wanted to help us getting inside.
If somebody have more informations or is around, and could sometimes check what’s happening to it, that could be great.

We were to the theater today and we didn’t find a way inside the former auditorium, and all doors were closed and it doesn’t seemed to be still in use (we were searching for the tenant but nobody could help us in the neighborhood). Is somebody have an idea on who is the owner ?
