The building still exists, though not as a theatre. The entire block burnt I believe in the 80’s and the entire block sat vacant for years…I few years back the entire building was renovated as well as the Terra Cotta apartment building behind it which is now Senior living.

I would encourage someone to take some photos during demolition…..there might be some architectual details that had been covered up during renovations.

jon6444 commented about TCM Big-Screen Showings of, "Casablanca" on Jul 28, 2006 at 9:59 am

Thats great……but why not have these events held in wonderful old Movie Palaces? I think TCM is missing a big opportunity to promote their network as well as do some good PR with the communitys that screen their films.

hdtv267 has a great idea…instead of always using the one reel wonders to fill gaps, they should produce programming about a particular theatre, chain or architect. It could be a great way to bring awareness to these gems.

I think it would be neat for TCM to screen movies from their archives in movie palaces…Maybe some live broadcasts from the theatre while simultaneously broadcasting on TCM…..Maybe a world premiere of a restored print.. It could be a great opportunity for all involved.

I wonder if these managers that fired this nice gentlemen have any concept of what Mr. Smith or any WW II veteran has done for this country? Sad indeed…..well I am glad he is back on the job and AMC had to eat some humble pie.

Glad to have you aboard Mr. Lamb, I can’t say much more than already has been said above…..Mr. first Movie Palace experience was with the Ohio Theatre in Cloumbus that your great grandfather designed…that was his masterpiece…….well they are all masterpieces…anyway it is a real testement to your great grandfathers work that I had the same reaction as the people who first entered this great theatre 75 years ago… absolute disbelief….I was hooked from then on and now I am proud to be a volunteer usher at the Ohio and Palace (another T.L. theatre)….ya gotta write a book or something, we here at CT are always thirsty for knowledge.

We have finished up the exterior brick repair and will be starting with the removal of the center wall, two screens and seats. One of the screens and the seats will be put up for sale soon. We are basically preping the theatre for renovation…We are working on a capital campaign and grant writing…more updates to come.

jon6444 commented about Theater Naming Issue on Sep 20, 2005 at 1:28 pm

Wow, what a double edge sword, On one hand, finding funds to renovate and maintain a historical theatre are very hard to come by and many times corporate funding is appropriate, particularly if it is a company that has been in the community for years. In my opinion, naming the theatre after the highest bidder is sort of a sell out and cheapens the whole thing. After all we are “restoring” a theatre back to its original grandeur, that includes its original name. If a theatre has to be named after someone, it should be named after a local war hero, not some huge impersonal corporation. There are other ways to involve corporate sponsors, naming the auditorium, or other parts of the theatre. What do you think.

jon6444 commented about Sidney Theatre on Apr 27, 2005 at 8:04 pm

If someone is interested in the sidney, chakers donated the Fairborn to the fairborn performing arts association. If you are looking to start a performing arts organization, you might try to get the theatre donated. Chakers did stipulate that the fairborn could not show movies, at least movies that competed with their other theatres, so classic movies from the 40’s 50’s might be possible, assuming chakers would approve. How old is the sydney? does anyone have pictures?

The new roof of the Fariborn is near completion, Electric is connected to the building; but the electric needs to be brought up to code before the lights can be turned on. We are looking into bringing a theatre pipe organ to the fairborn, so if anyone has one or knows where one is, please let us know. We are also in need of projectors. Chakers took the originals when they left. We are hoping to get some donated, so again any help or ideas would be appreciated.
