disgruntled you are not that bright are you?
I mean you seem like you are a very stupid person so maybe you can work at Page Manor, if you don’t already.

You said “lackey is a word that means messenger or runner or assistant” and “so please get the words right”.

Um ok “assistant” John is the assistant so maybe you should get your thumb out your butt and read before commenting on something you know nothing about.

And John spells his name J-o-h-n like in the above not Jon like you wrote!

Learn to read and spell ;–)

First off fox theaters… lackey is a word that means messenger or runner or assistant… so please get the words right. If you all feel so strongly about what you are saying and think Joe and Jon are so bad… I would think you would be able to go down there and at least talk to someone… I doubt they are the only two who are working there. I don’t know I just am a college student who enjoys going down there. I have never had a problem plus it is cheap and fun. Not 9.25 for a movie like Regal. Oh well I am done on here.

Drunk or not you can’t talk sense to someone lacking any sense.

I know Joe the owner is big part of the problem but the rest of it is because of his so-called manager “John”.

John is the man (boy) who puts the word lack in lackey

I would but the owner Joe is always drunk.

Well champ if you took 5 minutes to actually research the stuff you are saying then maybe you would better understand what is going on… so if you know nothing and think you do; you might want to get your facts straight. Or maybe suggest something to do if you think the place is such a treasure… then get out there and do something. I am sure that the owners or whatever would be open to any ideas you have… hell if you can think of something to improve it, then why not share it.

cinemajunkie
cinemajunkie on July 26, 2005 at 7:33 am

I cannot speak for everyone but for me you don’t need to be a “past employee who got fired” to know that the way this great treasure is being operated like a piece of crap.

Harsh? Harsh is not the right word for the emotions and feelings that one has when they see the Page Manor and feels they should have pride that it was reopened after six years.

There are not words to describe those feelings. I know everyone and everything has a story and skeletons can be found in everyone’s closets if looked for but let us make this site not about those.

And as for me being a past employee? Am afraid you are wrong my friend. In today’s world Americans need job security and Page Manor will be gone next year.

disgruntled
disgruntled on July 23, 2005 at 9:58 pm

Wow you people are harsh… but lemme take a stab at this the people who are putting this place down the drain are probably the people who were fired from the place and are now banned from coming back. I.E. the people who were caught stealing and caught taking all the food. Maybe if you people would not have done all this and trashed the place up there would not be such a stigma upon this place… so all the past employees who are mad because they got fired there are people out there who know your little stories to and you are lucky someone did not press changes.

The trouble with Page Manor is two things.

Joe Kinney the theaters owner and
John Augustine the want a be theater owner and manager.

Joe Kinney has no experience in the theater business.

John Augustine is a want to be reject.

The Page Manor was rushed opened last year. The marquee was not fixed and still is not fixed.

They later broke the Page Manor Shopping Center sign over the marquee which they have yet fixed.

The theatre was $2.50 and did some business.
It is hard to wake a dead horse up after being closed six years.

Joe Kinney and John Augustine just a few months later dropped admission to $1.00.

They hoped the patrons would buy more snacks if admission was lower.

This is what was going on at Teicher Theatres which has several $1.00 cinemas and makes good money.

The bad side to this Page Manor with two screens and often three movies playing and averages about 50-60 for a evening on Fr&Sa movie or about 10-15 for Sa, Sun matinee combined! Take half away for the Sun-Thurs show. It comes to an average of
500 or 600 admissions a week combined.

They say only about half of you customer will spend at least $5.00 at your theatre that is say 300 pepole spending $5.00 equals $1,500
a week $6,000 a month! Page Manor is still paying up front for on most bookings. That averages out to about $700 – $900 a movie.

Say Page Manor pays $700 three times in a month that is $2,100.
Pepsi and Gold Medal (Consession Cost) is about 400 a week times 4 is about $1,600 a month. Electric runs about $4,000 – $5,000 a month. Patroll is about $900 – $1,000 a week! Round up to $1,000 is $4,000 a month! Plus $3,000 in rents that about $10,200 before you buy anthing elese. So the cost of Page Manor is about $10,200 and it takes in on a good month about $6,000!

Theicher averages about 2,500 to 3,000 or more a week.

Not understanding this Joe and John have became a
cancer to the Page Manor.

Also they now can not get some movie when other discount cinemas receive them, often 8-10 weeks later.

This week is the big bomb “REBOUND”. Because of the admission they can not get “THE LONGEST YARD”.

At a dollar Page Manor still averages 30-40 people a show!
Joe and John think they have something to prove and that is why it is still open.

They have also had trouble with playing DVD movies from major studios and not paying for them.

They have switched bookers three times in a year.

Instead of hiring experienced employees Joe hired family and friends that was robbing him blind.

After so much being stolen he fired them.
John brought in his friends.

John who is qualified him self “trained them”.

They are now nothing more than a group of lackeys.
What could have been a great theatre again is lost.

The theatre is a joke and the stigma of it is a stain.

The only hope is when the lease runs someone might take it.
But that is not likely they already killed it and with the first closing last years the landlord will not likely take it down.

I live only a couple of miles from this theater, and I would love to support it more—it has so much potential. But every time I go there, I get depressed. If it’s not mediocre projection or sound, it’s the obnoxious teenage twits in the audience who talk at top volume throughout and constantly change seats or run up and down the aisles to get concessions.

Maybe I’m spoiled because in the mid-to-late 90s, this theater was managed by a team that did a great job. The picture and sound were both top-notch, and the theater was even outfitted for DTS and 70-millimeter. They showed some imagination in their bookings and had a great midnight series.

I know it’s unrealistic to expect something similar now, but the new presentation is shoddy, even by second-run standards. Most of the time, it sounds like they don’t even turn the stereo soundtrack on. It’s an utter waste of the biggest screen in the Dayton area. I suppose since they charge only $1, they feel they don’t have to do much of a job. You certainly get what you pay for—-not much.

veyoung Page Manor’s screen 1 is a massive 50ft curved screen. The management likes to book flat movies in this house leaving the picture in the center with big dark ends of each side of the screen.
The second screen is “smaller” but still is big for a twin. If however is a flat screen and the use scope movie which would look better on the “BIG CURVED JOB”. Plus the ‘smaller screen" the picture jumps. With that said “the big screen” is not the best anymore because the picture is off center because the “management team” or as I like to call them lackeys or simply a bunch of jokers don’t now how to operate of fix anything.

CinemaJunkie, u said: “The projection is horrible. They play flat movies on the big curved screen and scope movies on the small flat screen.” What does this mean? Do they have two different screens?

cinemajunkie
cinemajunkie on July 16, 2005 at 8:42 am

The projection is horrible. They play flat movies on the big curved screen and scope movies on the small flat screen. They are backwards. The sound is stereo but is hard to hear with all the loud kids. The smaller screen is a nightmare. The sound is awful and the picture jumps. You can see were they spliced the movie when watching. They are untrained and unaware of what they need to do inside the booth right down to the concession stand and box office. I have seen several times were they do not even give out tickets! I even once came out and reading the above statement did talk to a “Joe” about the kids being too loud. He did apologize and send an usher in with me to show where the kids were. He smelled like he had been drinking all day and decided to come to work. I don’t if it was the Joe who owns the Cinema. I do sometimes see a van out front with “Joe’s Heat & Air” on the side of it

Page Manor Twin Cinema is owned by Joe Kinney. Joe Kinney also owns Joe’s Heat and Air. The Kinney’s also own WPAFB’s KAS CABLE.

Warner Brothers is investigating Page Manor about several recent DVD plays at the Page Manor. The movies include original House on Haunted and House of Wax.

Other companies are looking into the illegal plays are Anchor Bay Entertainment Corp. for the DVD play of Day of the Dead and Platinum Disc Corp. for the Gate.

New Line Cinema is looking into last year’s play of the Original Ninja Turtles. Other movies include illegal plays of Halloween, Nightmare of Elm Street 5 from their Halloween Fest. Page Manor on some of these engagements did not add the times to newspapers just on papers posted to the door and or marquee. There are pictures from these times for proof.

I would have to agree with UA80 on this one. There has been times going to this theatre alcohol can be smelled around the concession from employees drinking. I have a friend at the liquor store at Page Manor that says the management from the cinema is always in there. The Page Manor has been in trouble for playing DVD movies and not getting permission from the studios. The investigation includes Warner and other.

I have visited the page manor atleast 12 times since moving to Wright pat air base in June. The service is great, employees are in uniform, the popcorn and concession are always served fresh and at an affordable price ($8 for a huge popcorn and soda with free refils). The movies are ontime and with an excellent picture and the place looks great newly painted. I don’t see any kids smoking outside or even acting up in the lobby. All of the employees are customer friendly, they show the utmost respect for myself the customer and the service is great. I will gladely support the Page Manor Twin Cinema and continue to take my family to this weel run establishment.

The Page Manor is barley making through its second year. The theater now offers free movies all day on Thursday to armed forces and college students. The hopes are to bring in patrons from Wright State and W.PA.F.B. The hope is with free movies they will buy concessions and make some money (since that is the only real way any theater makes money). The amazing thing is I was on my way to Regal Saturday night and was driving by Page Manor. I stoped and went in asking if I could use the restroom. The girl at the concession said yes. I made my past the side theater and “Day of the Dead” was playing. I looked in and no more than 20 or so was watching the movie. That was for $1.00!! I left and drove to Regal. I got my ticket for my movie. I noticed that “Day of the Dead” was still playing for $9.25! Regal is less than four miles up the road from Page Manor! I got my popcorn and drink and ran into “Day of the Dead”. The place was packed!!! Page Manor is poorly managed and has no advertising. The employees are usually goofy off with a crowd of friends or outside smoking. The kids on weekends are out of control and employees seem not to care since most of them are their friends.

Page Manor has gotten a new and I think even better web site.
PageManorTwin.Com ,on the web site it states it opened in 1967 under the history page.

Just to note that
www.dollarcinemas.com was for a company call Dollar Cinema out of Texas which is no more. The guys who took over Page Manor back in June was Dollar Cinemas from Allen Town, PA.The website was
dollarcinemas.4t.com.They also owned two other sites but have been closed with the last in August of this year before they sold the Page Manor back to Kinney. When Kinney and his original Partner opened the Page Manor in January the website was www.pagemanortwincinemas.com . But now since Kinney and his dad are running the Page Manor Twin Cinemas as “Page Manor Dollar Cinema” the website is www.pagemanordollarcinema.com
So
www.pagemanordollarcinema.com
is the website for all web surfers
3 owners 3 website 1 big mess!

Page Manor is struggling to stay alive. The Page Manor was sold to
Dollar in early summer after Page Manor Twin Cinemas, LLC. reopened the Cineplex in January 2004. Dollar Cinemas dropped admission by $1.50 from $2.50 to $1.00 but poor management and direction the Page Manor has been sold again. Back in September Dollar Cinemas logos and name was removed and it as announced under new ownership. The Page Manor Twin Cinemas (Page
Manor Dollar Cinema) is now being operated by a new partnership with one of the
original owners Joe Kinney (owner of Joe’s Heat And Air) his father Raymond Kinney owner of Wright- Patterson AFB based KAS Cable TV (Kaufman Avenue
Fairborn).
The father has some major deep pockets and may try
to save the cineplex.Page Manor Twin Cinemas lease is a 3 year deal and runs $3,000 a month so it is going to be a long ride. 3 owners and a major admission price drop off all in just 9 months.

The Page Manor Twin Cinemas also still only averages around 400 – 500 admissions a week between the two cinemas. The Rocky Horror Picture Show which
brings in some money since the cinema is rented by the cast but seems to also be doing poorly averaging only 50 or so admissions in the big 250 seat auditorium. The Page Manor Website

The Page Manor Cinema has a new owner apparently called “Dollar Cinemas”. The Page Manor Twin Cinemas are now known as Page Manor Dollar Cinemas, with admission at just $1.00 at all times making it the cheapest movie house in the Dayton Metro Area. The cinemas sadly run with only a handful of customers and only a few dozen on the weekends. This is sad because this would be a great place if the right company could only operate it. I am not sure when the Dollar Cinemas took over operations but it appears to be the same employees working their which it the first bad sign. I saw Troy a few weeks ago at 7:00 and the place was a ghost town, I looked into the other cinema and it had less than 20 customers, I don’t know how they can afford to rent the movies, let alone the rent of the building and employees. The Page Manor Cinema have been open for about 7 months now and I look for the closing to be soon, they dropped prices by almost 75% to a $1.00 and still can not get anyone to come, they already have a new owner plus have changed their name, when what few people that go to the cinemas might say visit Page Manor Twin Cinemas they won’t find it. This just makes things more confusing, what if they are still open in six months, are they going to change its name again. Doubtful, in six months or less we the people of Riverside will have to travel to Huber Heights or Beavercreek for a movie because this cinema no matter what it is called can not survive the way it is operated.
To the owners have you ever heard of adverting?

The above is wrong!!!
Century Theatres opened Page Manor Theatre on May 24, 1967 with “In Like Flint”.
Famous movie star Kathryn Grayson was at the theatre’s opening.
Century later would sell the Page Manor Theatre
to Cincinnati, Ohio based Holiday Amusements. Holiday Amusements later sold the Page Manor theatre to Springfield, Ohio based Chakeres Theatres. Chakeres in 1975 twined the Page Manor and renamed the theatre Page Manor Cinemas. In 1988 National Amusements who owns Showcase Cinemas bought the Page Manor Cinemas from Chakeres. National Amusements than in September 1993 closed the Page Manor Cinemas. In December 1993 Telkamp Theatres of Cincinnati, Ohio reopened the Page Manor Cinemas. Telkamp closed Page Manor Cinemas in April 1998. The Page Manor Cinemas was closed for nearly six years. Page Manor Cinemas would reopen in
January 2004 as Page Manor Twin Cinemas. The Page Manor Twin Cinemas is also the new home for “Rocky Horror Picture Show” which plays every Saturday at midnight. Page Manor Twin Cinemas web site: www.geocities.com/pmtcmovies
