After a second look at you slideshow the NATIONAL HILLS photo is the theatres marquee Sorry Mike.
At least Bill thought enough of the old drive in to take a picture. I too went there when it closed looking for ONE-Sheets found one a western called “CATLOW” and that was it. The booth had been hacked to pieces GEORGIA THEATRE STYLE. They had a habit which i have written about, tearing a theatre apart once they sell it.And you have something to keep since you played there as a child.

Okay, on the Savannah river below the Drive in QUITE A FEW. Have you ever heard of FLICKR? came across it on my REGENCY MALL Cinemas and someone wrote that a manager was Killed there in a robbery. I am 99% sure that is FALSE.I am not on FLICKR so i couldn’t respond even though I did on the REGENCY MALL CINEMAS site.
How many boats and planes would it hold Mike?

October 25 1974 sees CHARLES BRONSON on the screen in “DEATH WISH” rated R, second feature is the very weak, “NEWMAN’S LAW” rated PG.
Going back to april 5 1975 Now showing,playing day and date with the MILLER THEATRE . “THE LAND TIME FORGOT” second feature is the BIG HIT… “GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER” both rated PG.
JUNE 12 1979 NOW SHOWING on a Drive in soon to be closed up.Less than year left. “H.O.T.S.” and “ SWINGING CHEERLEADERS” rated R.
July 10 1975 NOW SHOWING James Caan in a cheap BLAZING SADDLES rip off, “GONE WITH THE WEST” rated R, and the second feature which makes no sense is"THE LEGEND OF HELLHOUSE" rated pg.
JUNE 16 1974,bet Projectionist Chuck Dray had to preview these two movies to snip out any nudity before showing in North Augusta,S.C.
Now playing “THE TEACHER” and “THE STEPMOTHER” I often wondered if any one noticed the spice marks.
ED, you are not going to believe this but the guy that played the bus driver lives down the street from me. He,like me was a Stagehand, working MIDNIGHT COWBOY. The actor that was suppose to play that part got drunk the night before,so the next morning the Director puts him in the movie.
I asked him why he hasn’t let one of TV or papers do a feature on him and he flat out said “No Way” .I don’t know,I think it was because the film was X rated. Small World. I Knew the Projectionist at the Hilltop He probably dropped a reel or two on WOODSTOCK. Chuck could it until he started showing movies on platters.
“Woodstock” and “The Wild Bunch” is an odd double bill, all right. No doubt they were packaged for that drive-in engagement because they were both Warner films from the same period. On the other hand,combined they run five hours and 18 minutes. And with a late start the first week of August, plus an intermission between them and possibly one midway through “Woodstock” (three hours and four minutes) I’d be surprised if many cars were still there at about three in the morning.
As for “Midnight Cowboy” and “Alice’s Restaurant,” they played hundred of engagements together. They were both United Artists pictures from the same season. Once they were “played out” individually, UA sent them out as a package because they were perceived as sharing a bit of a counter-culture identity. That was true of “Alice’s Restaurant,” for sure; “Midnight Cowboy” had much greater mainstream appeal, but in this case it could be pressed into service for its underlying counter-culture appeal.

June 10 1972 now here is a triple feature you even find in Southern California. MIDNIGHT COWBOY,ALICE’S RESTAURANT, and THE CHRISTINE JOURGSEN STORY. Rated X,Rated R and Rated R. some booking for that side of the river.
Hilltop Drive in on July 2 1972 ELVIS in CLAMBAKE and KID GALAHAD.
BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS with the BAREFOOT EXECUTIVE would follow. BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS would have an impressive run at DANIEL VILLAGE for several weeks.
July 16 1972 FROGS and THE CONQUEROR WORM plays Horror at the HIllTOP. Both rated PG.
Following this horror double feature will be HANNIE CAULDER and A GUNFIGHT with Kirk DOUGLAS and JOHNNY CASH rated PG.
July 30 1972 Boy,this is ELVIS country,he is back with LIVE A LITTLE AND LOVE A LITTLE. second feature is GIRL HAPPY and the third movie is THAT’S THE WAY IT IS.
