National Hills Theatre

Drove by my old theatre and workers are working on all that is left of the THe Theatre itself,Legends of Golf will house this old theatre during the MASTERS.thought about walking up and stealing a cement brick,still might do it,Dang I miss that wonderful old place, but on my Facebook page I have put plenty that haven’t made it on Cinematreasures.

Great opening night shot,the picture was in color when taken.

2010 was 35mm.I was out of the business,but knew the staff there and projectionists.somewhere in all those older Posts I have listed all the 70mm to play there.

Trey,you should have seen 2001 0n it in 70mm.

Glad you got on and retracted your comment, Mike. I’ve known Charles a long time and didn’t think he’d be involved in something like that. I’m also glad that I’m able to get back on CinemaTreasures! Had a while when I couldn’t get on for the life of me. Hope the bug is fixed and I’ll be back from time to time. Did anyone else have this problem?? Course, if they ARE having the problem, they can’t tell us BECAUSE THEY CAN’T GET ON!!! BTW, Mike, cool find on the picture of Forest Hill’s Drive-In.

National Hills played a lot of great movies,but so did thousands more.I only Know National Hills.Always a Disney Theatre we have “RASCAL” and “HANG YOUR HAT ON THE WIND” playing.July 4 1969 and Paul Newman is burning up that big screen in"WINNING".August 15 1969 has “OLIVER” on its 3rd big week with reservations taken BY MAIL.Sept 24 1971 sees the weepy"JOY IN THE MORNING" playing.March 15 1974 “CINDERELLA LIBERTY” visits for a short run. Oct 15 1974 all of Augusta’s senior citzens show up for “SOUND OF MUSIC”.Never could keep the Temp right in the Theatre.August 15 1975,John Mackey and me decide on the North Carolina film"LAST AMERICAN HERO" with Jeff Bridges,while not your typical late show it does well.Sept.26 1975 has DISNEY’s “ONE OF OUR DINO’s IS MISSING”.Sept 26 1976 “BAD NEWS BEARS” returns,it plays every circuit in Augusta.Nov 24 1976 one of those corny movies"ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE".June 3 1977 having played EVERYWHERE; “THE STING” returns.Sept 16 1977 has “SILVER STREAK” back for one week only.

July 14 1978 Disney’s “HOT LEAD AND COLD FEET” plays to large crowds.Nov 3 1978 “THE BIG FIX”.Feb 19 1982 has “SHOOT THE MOON”.In 70mm on March 26 1982"QUEST FOR FIRE". April 30 1982 “PARASITE” in 3-D.August 27 1982 “FAST TIMES” and A movie the folks at GCC’s Regency Mall cinemas thought they were getting,“RETURN OF THE JEDI” opens.Not in 70 mm.but who knows, in those days the management at Plitt theatres here were not Showmen like Jerry Tinney was.it could have played in 70mm,but most likely 35mm..Pretty much somes up some great entertainment.

That is amazing,I have looked at that picture of Cindy a thousands times and never put one and one together,I know we sold only Coke While I was AT ABC/PLITT.Glad you are getting back on some.I know with work it limits your time with the Theatres.I sent some pictures of Nashville Theatres to Nick Hope they get on CT.Tisloews mailed them,I forwarded them on To Tampa.Some Great pictures i know CT members will want to see.I hope you put more on Too,I know you have a bunch.

Yep,Nick.I bet Bill Played it. And Robin was the manager.i am a Coke guy.Working at GCC was tough in the soft drink department.Think I drank a lot of a LOTTA LEMON.Just drove by Old NATIONAL HILLS all that left is just the Theatre and hanging off the side of the auditorium was future home “LEGENDS OF GOLF” and Hospitally.So I guess once a year when THE MASTERS is being played across the street the place will open one week for guests.

I just noticed something I had never caught, in the picture with Cindy waiting on the lady at the Concessionstand,I swear that is a Pepsi menu board above the Concession,nothing wrong with that it is just we sold Coke product there and not Pepsi.After all these years I just noticed it and bet I have looked at the picture a hundred times or more,One would think Coke would want that down.I know our Ice box had Pepsi written on it but the moviegoer wouldn’t have noticed it. We could have had Pepsi on one Fountain and Coke on the Other,but i didn’t spend that much time behind that Candy Counter.I wouldn’t even know who to ask.Robin? She hardly gets on any more.The rest of the old gang won’t get on CT.so we might have had two different sodas? Right now that is really bothering me after ALL THESE YEARS!!!

“A CHORUS LINE” in 70mm is playing in Stereo sound.April 14 1986.
