Any news on this place?
No. The Diana was always at 177th & Halsted in the Washington Square Mall. This is a freestanding structure at 182nd.
Does anyone know if this was the also known as the Diana Theater around 1981 – 1982
Where exactly was this theater? I tried to find it using “Streetview” on Google Maps. Was it on the East side of Halsted behind the AM-PM Mini Mart, the Jiffy Lube, the Popeyes, or the Wendy’s?

Well, I clicked on the link to Village Theatres and received this “villagetheatres.com expired on 01/24/2008 and is pending renewal or deletion”

They finally updated their website after 6 weeks!
Village has not updated its website since September 21, 2007. What’s that all about?
I have no idea when it opened but judging by the architecture and interior design as I recall it I would say early ‘70s. I remember The Glenwood as a very nice single large screen auditorium. I distinctly remember seeing “Animal House” there in 1978, my first R-rated movie. It was awesome. In later years they just kept splitting up that nice, big auditorium.

That might be a little tough. Village has only recently begun advertising its theatres (and only the North Riverside & Lincoln Village). I think though that circa 2002, when they first became a “chain”, they advertised. You may also want to look at microfilm/microfiche issues of THE DAILY SOUTHTOWN & the neighborhood newspapers.
I’m going to the library tomorrow, I’ll look and see if this was called the Village South at one point.
And I seem to remember that briefly this theatre may have been known as the Village South. Can anyone confirm this.
Cinemark Fan, it being a former single-screener seems likely. Consider that the Village, Village North, & LaGrange were all formerly single screeners.
I read somewhere that this place opened in 1975 as a single screener. Can anyone confirm this?
