REG Montgomeryville 7 Theatre opened in 1968/69 by Sam Shapiro as “Eric Montgomeryville Theatre”. It was twinned in late 1974. It became Eric Montgomeryville 3 Theatre in mid to late 1976. Between 1986 and 1989, the theatre added 4 more screens and became Eric Montgomeryville 7 Theatre. In 1992, United Artists dropped the “Eric” name from all the Philadelphia area theatres they acquired when they bought out Sameric Rocking Chair Theatres Company in 1988.
When the Eric Montgomeryville became a twin complex, did they twin the old theatre or added a new building? And when the Eric II became Eric 3, did they twin one of the buildings? And how did they add the 4 screens?
The REG Montgomeryville 7, as well as the AMC 309 Cinema 9 Theatre that further down on Rt. 309, are examples of old movie theatres that are still operating. (REG Montgomerville 7 opened as Eric Montgomeryville Theatre, the AMC 309 Cinema 9 opened as Budco 309 Cinema Theatre, on the same grounds with the Budco 309 Drive In
The theatre opened in 1962 as a single screen theatre. It has since been added on to a couple of times. There is currently rumor that the theatre will be renovated by Regal Cinemas some time next year because the lease is soon to expire. I find it great because of the location and the staff is very nice. The place is a bit run down so let Regal know that they should fix it up.
Did this theatre complex originally start out as a single-screen theatre? When did it open?
I originally got the address of Routes 202, 309 & 463 from the Philadelphia Inquirer’s movie listings. BTW, does anyone know when the Montgomeryville theatres opened? Did it start out as a single screen, and expanded with another theatre? I remember seeing that theatre while driving North on Route 309 years ago.
