Among upcoming movies playing at this theater according to Fandango, two of them are in 3D, Paranorman and Nitro Circus: The Movie. I’d go for the former.
Just saw the movie last saturday morning at an 11:20 showing. They started the trailers during the last few minutes of the preshow…surprisngly the projection was very bright for a digital imax movie. Among the trailers they showed before Dark Knight Rises were an AMC promo for the Watch (released by AMC and Regal owned Open Road Films), Skyfall trailer IMAX exclusive, Man of Steel (Jor-el), The Bourne Legacy (not coming out in imax), The Hobbit (part 1 of a trilogy, and Oz the great and powerful trailer. The imax intro was also shorter to make room for the batman movie. The real imax showings of dark knight rises in 70mm showings don’t have trailers at all. The projection of the movie was quite good, although the aspect ratios were quite a bit annoying. At least the sound mix was awesome!!!
Did they sharpen the focus on the digital imax screen. The last IMAX movie that I went to that used the aspect ratios was Tron 3D which wasn’t as good as the bluray version as I mentioned in my earlier post. The Lorax 3D was great in sharp imax 3D since it used the full screen as it was the same aspect ratio as the 35mm version (digital). As for the aspect ratios changing, I can deal with that. I saw that in The Dark Knight and in a trailer for Mission Impossible in digital imax. I heard the sound quality is good. Can you understand bane’s muffled voice in imax?
Yeah…It was great in IMAX . Toward the end it got annoying because they were switching aspect ratios constantly. The IMAX scenes were incredible though. I enjoyed the movie a lot.
From what I read, Nolan shot the film in two aspect ratios….2:35.1 for the Panavision footage and 1:44.1 for the IMAX scenes. The digital imax is cropped to fit the small screen, so i’ll just go for regular digital anyways. Not much information is lost in the regular format (Just like with Dark Knight, nolan also shot it in regular alongside the IMAX cameras).
Good for you MGrennile. I think I’ll do the same and see TDKR in regular digital projection (i didn’t see dark knight in 2008 in rockaway because it was crowded and i went to mansfield which had digital projection). Extra security will be there due to what happened in Aurora a few days ago.
Can’t imagine the lines at Rockaway right now! I’m looking on Fandango…All 12 midnight shows are sold out. The 330AM is still for sale. I’ll be making the trek tomorrow to see it at Palisades! (Real IMAX!!)
Went to see ted last night in theater #1, preshow was on but no picture just sound. At least the film and previews started on time, projection was amazing (the film was shot using 1080p hd cameras) and the sound quality was great. Theater was very packed. This movie was funny!!!
Moonrise Kingdom is finally playing here this weekend…i might give it a shot if it’s not sold out like it has been the past few weekends in limited release. PT Anderson’s past few movies were good…my favorite that i saw on the big screen is The Royal Tennenbaums at the clearview in mansfield. I have the Criterion dvd.
Looks like AMC isn’t showing an IMAX trilogy of batman movies, just the digital version for thursday July 19th. Tickets are just $25 for the epic marathon. No midnight showing for digital IMAX Dark Knight rises, just opening day. I’m sure tickets will sell out for sure.
Saw prometheus in 2d, projection was pretty good and surround sound was awesome. Only thing i moan about is that some trailers that are attached to movies that debut online i can’t see at this theater. Like, Django Unchained. The theater wasn’t packed as madagascar 3.
For those who want to see Prometheus in Imax 3D, notice the aspect ratio….it is 2:0.1, as I saw in the last trailer before Men in Black 3 and The Avengers 3D.
Actually they went into effect at noon that day. Dark Knight Rises advance tickets go on sale next week at noon. AMC will also do a dark knight trilogy marathon that consists of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and then the final movie, which looks like it’s going to be the longest Batman movie ever.
I agree markp. Price changes go into effect at midnight on June 1st.
Not for long. You see moviebuff, they are just preparing you for the inevitable. When everyone else is done putting in digital, they are going to be forced to raise their prices to help offset the cost. AMC is merely getting an early jump on things, thats all.
Ticket pieces are up to $11.50 when I looked up advance showings for Prometheus 2d. When did this happen? This will make it the most expensive ticket in Morris county nj for a regular 2d digital showing.
Other than seeing “avengers 3d” for a second time (Lens issues were fixed), i saw “MIB 3” IMAX 3D and enjoyed it. The 3D conversion was pretty good, and the surround sound awesome. Enjoyed the 3D 6 minute trailer for the Amazing Spider-Man, which looks great in 3D.
The conversion of the movie was terrible, the way the screen was projected was quite blurry, especially when it got closer to showtime (mostly for the 3D films). The surround sound was pretty good and quiet and times but got louder with the action. The new Dark Knight trailer looked sharp and very bright despite the theater deciding to keep the lights on with the trailers playing (they turned it off before the Brave trailer was over). The trailer show was started after the amc first look was stopped near its end.
Saw avengers in reald 3d and while the movie was a good one the 3d sucked. There were two 2d trailers and four 3d trailers. Can’t wait for Prometheus in 3d!!!!
This weekend it’s all “Avengers” as the movie plays in digital 2D, fake reald 3d, and fake liemax 3d. Expect huge crowds for this film throughout the month of May.
the movie was amazing, the projection,so so. It was intheater #7, which was dim, and was next to the imax theater playing wrath of the titans. During quiet moments in hunger games, i can hear sound coming from the imax and hear a rumble or two.
I loved the books…That being said, it was fantastic. They definitely skipped on some of the ending, but it was already 2.5 hours, so can’t really complain. I am actually hearing great things about Titanic in 3D. May have to check it out.
How was it, MGrennille? It’s still doing gangbusters after two weeks of release. Titanic is back in 3D, only real d 3D according to fandango. Also the prices for Prometheus on fandango are $17!!!
As of 6:30, there were “rope lines” going up for The Hunger Games. Last count, I saw 10 screenings at midnight tonight. Movie is getting great reviews. Can’t wait to see it on Saturday.
advance tickets are now on sale for the avengers (midnight showing only) as well as Prometheus. Pretty soon they’ll have tix for Dark Knight rises!!!
