DavidZornig commented about Historic Vista Theater on Oct 22, 2017 at 6:32 pm

In the Photos Section I just posted a Vista Theatre poster promoting the Bela Lugosi In-Person screening of “Dracula”. December 8 was a Monday in 1947, as the poster indicates. So that confirms the above query about the date. Also on the poster Theatre is spelled with an “re” and not an “er”. Contrary to all other sources and their website. So possibly the printer’s interpretation.

One of our salesmen at Fanning Cadillac-Buick across the street, was notorious for running out to collisions in the intersection to hand out business cards in the `80’s.
The grill in the background later became Song’s Grill.

DavidZornig commented about Varsity Theater on Oct 19, 2017 at 4:40 pm

Here’s an opportunity to tell Evanston’s new mayor to save the Varsity and renovate it for Northlight, instead of tearing it down as part of the proposed tower. Ironically held in a new 1920s style speakeasy, owned by Ron Onesti. Who could tell them of his successes at the vintage Arcada Theatre in St. Charles.
