Went to see a film here Yesterday in Auditorium #2, the wallpaper was ripped off the wall, the 4 seats directly in front of me were covered by black garbage bags. AMC you are doing a wonderful job running your NYC flagship location straight into the ground! The only decent house is the Prime theatre, otherwise you are taking chances going to catch a flick in this place. The people of Regal Cinemas across the street do however know how to maintain a theatre properly, let’s hope the film you want to see is showing there, if you don’t mind having your bags checked.

The Prime screen is currently closed for a few weeks of renovation because it will then be reopening as a Dolby Cinema location complete with the Vision laser projection. As far as I know, the IMAX screen here (which is still playing) will remain normal digital, at least for a little while.

Will AMC Prime get the Dolby Vision treatment?

IMAX laser won’t be in at Lincoln Square until fall, and the 15/70 (true IMAX) theaters will be first to get it. May not be in before Star Wars.

The scene was filed in 15/70mm so this theater would not take full advantage of the effect.

Allow me to answer Moviebuff82’s question,

I’d bet on this theater getting all the upcoming “Star Wars” movies. Episode 7 has one sequence shot with IMAX cameras. Factor in that, and the fact this theater has an IMAX screen and 25 screens altogether, and you can see how the Empire gets dibs.

Me thinks the E-Walk will get “Point Break”, “Snowden”, and (if the IMAX engagement is canceled) “Heart of the Sea”.

Hope this answers your question.

I wonder which theater will show the new star wars movie, this one or the one across the street?

What movie had the longest run at this venue? I think Avatar has the record.

When i first saw the picture of the Empire 25 i thought they had a movie theater inside that palace like entrance but it was transformed into a big lobby with the 25 screens to the left of the exterior.

Everyone thinks this was a first, to move a theater. It was actually done in Brooklyn in 1904 when the Montauk was moved, intact, not only just down the street, but also rotated! And it was a much larger structure. See elsewhere on CT.

The marquee has a lot of burned-out light bulbs, especially in the sign that says “Theatres”

The still operating Vue, Birmingham, England U.K. is another 30 screen cinema, but with 277 less seats than the AMC Mesquite 30.

AMC had few theaters with 30 screens ,but some closed others were reconfigured or sold to other chains

“With Toronto’s Cineplex Cinemas Yonge – Dundas only one behind at 24.”

Which is now down to 23 due to the VIP renovation. Oddly enough the theaters are not re-numbered so it still goes up to 24!

Next month this theater turns 15. Back then the share price of AMC was cheap as it’s across the street competition had more summer hits than the empire which cost around a hundred million bucks to develop. Pretty soon things turned around and now the empire is the #1 theater in the USA. Next year will be ten years since AMC sold off the e walk due to antitrust rules from the merger which was a good idea.

Renting out theaters to church groups on Sunday morning is a good business decision, not a sign of desperation at all. It’s not like Sunday morning a big “go to the movie” time for people to go to a theater to see a movie, so it’s not like they are doing that instead of movies. It’s a win for all involved.
