Later this year, this theater will turn 15. Since then, there have been theater closings, renovations, and openings, the biggest of which is the AMC in Rockaway, the only theater in Morris County to have stadium seating but not true HD projection, which Clearview already has in three of its locations in Morris County plus one in Warren County except Madison and Chester.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC vs. Clearview in Morris County on Feb 21, 2009 at 1:29 pm

Recently, Clearview has upgraded nearly all of its theaters with digital projection, plush seating, digital sound, and of course raising prices just like AMC. AMC, meanwhile, uses its preshow projection to show met operas (just like some of the Clearviews), ncm fathom programming, and of course, the first look program.

I’ve been to another theater with CO decals, the one in Menlo Park Mall in Edison, complete with Cineplex Odeon logo outside and Loews Cineplex decals near the auditorium with Rear Window/DVS. That theater should close down since there’s other theaters in Edison. I hope they make a better Bridgewater Commons theater with stadium seating and digital projection to compete against the Reading Cinema in Manville.

The Plaza 8 for some time has been playing a mix of Indian fare.

I’m on the AMC website, and there are no advance tickets for this coming friday; usually on Tuesday night or Wednesday advance tickets are on sale…see the comment i made nearly a year ago. Are they working hard on installing digital projection for all screens?

It’s my speculation. This theater is still the only theater left in Ridgefield Park after the closing of the Rialto late last year. The businesses surrounding the theater have changed, but the place hasn’t.

With the closing of the Plaza 8 and soon the Meadow Six….this theater will close down once Xanadu opens.

After the Meadow six closes, then the only Loews-style theaters that will be left are the ones without stadium seating across the hudson, especially the Lincoln Square w/ IMAX, and the ones in East Hanover, Wayne, and Ridgefield Park.

Those preshow projectors also do most of the NCM Fathom showings, which I don’t hear that much from people who go to this theater for. One reason is that they’re more expensive than regular movie tickets, although moviegoers save a lot of money when they go see a Met opera at the movies vs going to a sold out show at the opera house in NYC. Save the money and catch one on PBS for free in HD. One other thing that this theater lacks showing is sporting events, which Clearview has experimented in select theaters, as well as a large party room, which the AMC in Clifton Commons has. At least the electronic snack signs are pretty cool.

On the Clearview website, the company incorrectly says that the cinema is located in Morris Plains, not Parsippany, although the theater is near the border between that borough and the town.

the first movie i saw here was you got mail, during free movie weekend. the film started with the policy ads and the first few minutes of a trailer without sound. the sound came on, although it was only dolby stereo. the next free movie i saw, star trek insurrection, was in digital. there have been a few movies that didnt have digital surround sound, such as when the phantom menace came out. back then it was out for a few weeks and i saw it with my late nana. the movie was crap, although it could have been better if the manager turned on the dolby ex system, since i went to a non-THX showing. i also read online that former newark mayor sharpe james went to this theater as well as the secaucus ones before he got busted.

A medical building is what Fair Lawn just needs in this economy.

Those shows were sold out as I can recall….to date, it’s one of the most popular 3-d movies of all time. Good thing that AMC will wait and see until the economy improves so that it can enhance the theater again; the last new big thing at the theater was the Met HD series, which are used by the preshow projectors and aren’t technically true hd projection systems.

Just went by the theater on my way to a knicks/76ers game, and nearly 10 years since the theater opened, there’s lots of new stores around Route 3, and the theater is still hopping.

AMC also did the same thing with Rockaway as well. On the way to a Knicks/76ers game at the Garden, I was right by both theaters on Route 3 as well as Clifton Commmons, which AMC owns. Closing down the Plaza 8 is a good idea for AMC, since it should have only one theater in town to keep moviegoers busy until the opening of the 14 screen Kerasotes. BTW, I read somewhere that Xanadu might not open in August, so moviegoers in the Secaucus area will have only one new movie theater to check out that month along with a 10-year old theater in Clifton that will outlast its only smaller competition.

Just checked the showtimes and the only movie to be on two screens this weekend is Confessions of a Shopaholic, another mall movie playing at a theater near a mall. No Digital projection; hopefully they install it just in time for the Jonas Brothers concert movie.
