What was the issue with Sweet Charity. I have it and it is perfect it has two versions the roadshow version and regular movie version. I was very please the sound and picture were perfect on the Blu Ray
Vindanpar, for the main Roadshow theater in the Hamid chain It had no curtains or masking. The Roxy was double the size of the Virginia had curtains and masking and a stage. One of the screens from the Virginia was moved to the Music Hall at the Steel Pier. When the screen was lifted up you could see on the bottom where it said Virginia Theater. I was only in this theater several times for Hello Dolly. Honestly I was not impressed. David Zornig than you too for the photos. I had no clue that South Pacific played there. The only early films I remember there before 67 were the SOM and It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World. There was a post card in the 60’s that showed the Virginia had The Carpetbaggers but no clue what year that was.
It was an exception for a boardwalk theater to be open during the winter. Hamid only kept the Hollywood and Center open during the winters. The Shore stayed open all year in 1969 after Oliver closed.
Did the Town Cinema that was Frank Theater also close? They played Jaws the summer it opened. Saw Tommy here at the Tilton when it was a single screen theater.
That would be awesome for Netflix to run the theater. They actually need to release their films like Amazon Studios do as full length feature films. Until they do, I don’t see the Academy taking them serious and awarding one of their films best picture.
It was the summer of 1967. That was out first year in AC. Prior to that they had The Sound Of Music for two summers. George Hamid kept the theater open all winter because business was so good. That was rare for a boardwalk theater.
They were beyond horrible. It was like sitting in your living room. After seeing The Rose at the Ziegfeld in 70MM than after it transferred here and taking a friend to see it, horrible isn’t even the word.
Do they have the one big auditorium or did they chop it up?
So does it operate as UA or Regal ? I Know they are both Regal entertainment
Great little theater
Does anyone know why it was renamed Regal UA Midway?
I hated those strips that Rugoff Used
Did Angelika take over all City Cinema theaters?
The Virginia was the 70MM house. The Hollywood and Center also had 70MM but 99% of the 70MM films played here.

Nice to see they still use real masking side to side
Would love to see this theater open again. It was the Art house theater for the Phila area
So is this theater closed currently?
WAs this originally a General Cinema theater?
I lived in NY from 75-83 they never had any 3-d movies
If the movie industry get operational again I would love to see this reopen as a movie theater. Many happy memories there
I never liked this theater. The screens were small and for a film in scope the staff had to add the masking at the bottom of the screen.
They didn’t stay open after Broadway closed did they?

Would love to see the red design marquee converted back to the Midtown marquee.
That’s great Alps. Thanks
My only concern is will it kill what films the Prince shows.
