On the 23rd, a Red Carpet premiere of the World Series film will take place at this theater at 7:30 p.m., which is being done by Screenvision and will also air it at several theaters, mostly independent theaters and Clearview cinemas, including the Ziegfeld theater. On the same day the film is in theaters, the DVD will be available for those who buy tickets and will also be on sale at retailers.

looks like the imax is opening just at this location, leaving the rockaway to open in a month with avatar as the next movie.

According to a friend who works at this theater, Imax will open next month, and the first movie to be shown will be Avatar, which is the most expensive movie of the year after 2012.

btw, how’s work going on the imax for this theater? Also, when will other screens be outfitted with 4k 3d?

that’s good to hear. When I see a 3D movie in mansfield, the picture is slightly out of focus and misframed. Hopefully when I see Avatar in either reald3d or imax 3d, the picture will be good and the sound will be clear. I hope it provides some much needed revenue to boost traffic and create longer lines.

Other than New Moon, there are no midnight showings for “The Blind Side” and “Planet 51”, which is lame.

moviebuff82 commented about IMAX will expand into AMC theaters on Nov 15, 2009 at 12:44 pm

AMC is making a huge mistake installing these mini-IMAX screens in some of its popular theaters. At least they still have theaters that have real IMAX screens (i.e., Palisades Center and Lincoln Square) that do really well. As the year closes, more and more AMC theaters that are moderately sized have gotten installations with the IMAX.

The next IMAX 3D movie will be Avatar, and advance tickets are on sale for that movie.

At least they have IMAX listed in the features that this theater has. The closest theaters with morning showtimes for the 3d version are in Clifton and Paramus. I hope they have 3d showtimes for Avatar in the morning before December 18. I’ll rather see it in widescreen 4k 3D rather than the fake IMAX 3D (probably going to Lincoln Square to see it in IMAX 3D once the crowds die down). Hopefully they get more screens to be 3D since Avatar could be the killer sci-fi movie of the year, on par with Star Trek. Today is the last day for the “Pirate Radio” sweepstakes in which moviegoers can enter for some prizes….too bad the movie bombed against “2012”. Almost half of the midnight showings of New Moon are sold out.

Looks like they changed it….no mention of AMC Imax at rockaway, just Garden State 16. The closest one that’s open is the one at Jersey Gardens.

Same here in Rockaway, where the movie is not playing. Hopefully later this month and next month the movie will get wide attention, especially if it gets an Oscar nomination.

my mistake….the highest grossing kid films are animated 2d style. Younger moviegoers prefer cgi movies, while older moviegoers prefer the old-fashioned way. I hope this movie makes a profit for Disney and brings life to their dying animation division (which sadly needs a hit after the disaster that was “Home on the Range”).

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Wayne 12 on Nov 14, 2009 at 11:56 am

When I grew up, I never saw a movie in 70mm at this theater, since some of those movie were aimed at grown-ups. 70mm disappeared when the two screens were split and digital surround sound was installed. The first time I heard DTS was during a showing of the Jurassic Park sequel “The Lost World”, which I saw twice at this theater. During the second showing, the print was spliced somewhat (the previous showing was on a rainy day, and that was on opening weekend), but the sound quality was much better than the last time, in which there was stuttering. Back when Loews/Sony ran this theater, they used to advertise a lot for Sony Products and the Sony/IMAX theater, not to mention have Sony Playstation consoles for tryout.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Loews Meadow 6 on Nov 14, 2009 at 11:51 am

One of my favorite experiences going to this theater was when I saw “Independence Day” the weekend it first came out. They didn’t show the “Star Wars” special edition trailer (which I saw at the Loews in Wayne with Jingle all the Way) but they showed a few other trailers as well as lots of filmed advertisements (alongside the slides) and then the feature presentation, which was great. Although the film was not mixed in 8-channel SDDS (it was a 5.1 mix, similiar to the Dolby Digital and DTS), it sounded great and the picture was good. After the movie was over, there were lines to go see the movie. After the Loews in Wayne expanded to 14 screens in 1997, I stopped going to this theater, and then Clifton Commons came.
