I can’t see many people showing up for Reloaded and Revoulutions though :) Then again they had Chicago and Spiderman part of the last festival, a little too recent IMO.
What about a Matrix Trilogy? That will be cool!!!!
Ghostbusters would be great, I suggested that the last time. How bout a Cop week- Dirty Harry, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon. And more directors geared weeks would be great- Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, James Cameron etc. It would be nice they were able to get 70mm prints of these films, half the films in the last two series had 70mm prints made.
This sounds good for the theater as this movie might outlast all of the earlier crap at the theater, which is a good thing. Plus, it’s nice to see Dreamgirls the way it’s meant to be seen, on a DLP screen with excellent surround sound and comfortable seating, at one of the most famous theaters in the world.
Has anyone tried contacting Clearview to see if there will be another one this spring? The way it’s looking they might keep Dreamgirls till early March after the Oscars.
How about the return of Star Wars (the good ones) at the theater? Oops, they did that already in the 1997 rerelease….they should bring some cult 70’s 80’s classics like an Alien double feature, a Ghostbusters double-bill, and a Rocky marathon.
Just checked clearviews site, and Dreamgirls is still there as this Friday. As someone else said they do have a classics series running in NJ which has some of the same titles as the previous series at the Ziegfeld and some new ones (Goodfellas, Goonies, Doors). I assume those three will be part of the next one at the Ziegfeld. At the fall run, they had a suggestions box and I heard that the Spielberg Week was the most successful out of the Fall Classics Series, so I’d expect more 70s/80s stuff if there is another one…
The problem with “The Dark Crystal”, “Krull” and “Dragonslayer”, is those films might no longer be available in the 70MM format. Because the studios junked many of those titles in the last 12 years.
How about “Transformers: The Movie”? That sounds silly, but they should show it before the new “Transformers” movie comes out this summer (maybe at the Ziegfeld, perhaps?)
Let’s face it guys, these are all good suggestions, but any classic film IMHO that is shown at the Ziegfeld has to one with WIDE appeal. Something like ‘Dragonslayer’ sounds cool, but it’s not going to appeal to the average Joe or Jane. Gotta get the musicals, classic wide-screen comedies, dramas, and thrillers. Just about any of Hitchcock’s well known films, for example would be a more realisitic succestion, or maybe even some classic sc-fi. I would suggest ‘Forbidden Planet’, but even that’s a stretch.
How about cult 80’s fantasy films like “The Dark Crystal”, “Krull”, and “Dragonslayer”, all presented in their original 70mm splendor and six-track Dolby Stereo!!! That would be cool.
Astyanax has an excellent idea there. A new 35mm print of “Becket” played the Film Forum last month, but a movie that big really should be seen at the Ziegfeld for maximum effect.
The classic film series that played at the Ziegfeld is now in Succasunna, with one film playing every week. Has anyone been to this series, and how does it compare with the more popular Ziegfeld showings?

“Drew Barrymore was on "Live with Regis & Kelly” this morning. Regis mentioned they had the premiere of her new film with Hugh Grant “Music & Lyrics” last night at The Ziegfeld. Drew had high praise for the theater and said she loved it and has had a few premieres there and in the world of multiplexes it’s nice to have it. She said as long as she can she will keep the tradition alive."
Hmmm. Not a big fan of hers, but that’s cool to hear. Maybe someone should contact Drew about film revival in New York at the Ziegfeld. There’s tons of film revival in L.A. at classic theaters like the Egyptian, so I’m sure she’s no stranger to it.

Did you get official word that the classics weren’t happening? I don’t know if I buy the disinterested public thing. There were screenings last winter that pulled in more people than some first run films, namely ‘Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’ which I saw at Ziegfeld to an almost empty house. On the other hand the classics screenings of “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Braveheart” were packing them in to pretty full houses. Has anybody been in touch with the guy from Clearview that was posting here last time around?
“Dreamgirls” is still playing at the Ziegfeld. It’s listed through the Thursday afternoon 2:30 show, but nothing is listed after that on the Clearview website.

‘Dreamgirls’ is no longer playing at the Ziegfeld and there are no current showings listed on their website. Anybody know what’s coming up next? Hopefully another Classics series…
Will06: I sure hope so. Last year they started on Super Bowl Weekend so they’re already late, but maybe “Dreamgirls” is still doing good business. The next couple of weeks will tell one way or the other.

Warren your’re totally right, however it seems that one topic leads to another and to respond directly you respond on that page. This seems to happen on pages of different theaters sometimes.
About the Roxy it seems that from the 40’s on there were ugly drapes covering that amazing proscenium for the rest of its existence which really seems awful to me.
And while the Roxy’s interior was certainly more heavily ornamented than the streamlined RCMH, I wouldn’t want to confuse it’s rococco design with the atmospheric style popularized by John Eberson in the late ‘20’s and early '30’s. The Paradise is a true atmospheric theater. I’m not entirely sure I’d categorize the Roxy (nor its smaller relation, the Beacon on B'way and 74th) as such.
Anyway… I posted a recent photo that I took of the TGI Friday’s that now occupies the space that once served as the Roxy’s entrance foyer on that theater’s listing here sometime back in January of last year.
