Also— Screenvision doesn’t require a full-scale DLP projector. Many locations use basic, home-grade projection equipment for those.

Yes, there is digital for SHUTTER ISLAND. The Landmark down the street has one screen DP, as do all digital-only AMC/Regal locations, plus the entire Krikorian and UltraStar Chains and God knows how many more.

HOWEVER, they pay more attention to LA. INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS had digital prints available to many locations, but both the Dome and the Village ran it in 35.

Pretty much every mainstream movie is offered digitally nowadays… Every new theater built by AMC, Regal, RAVE, etc is all digital.

One wonders if maybe the Festival could be picked up by whoever takes the Bruin and the Village. It’s a longshot, but one worth hoping for. I always loved the balcony here.

But Rave’s interest isn’t in single-screens, but big megaplexes… I have a really hard time believing that, too, unless it’s an undercover situation ala the Beverly Center.

I’d be very surprised by Laemmle given they’d be RE-ENTERING the Westwood market… although they do seem like a fit…

This weekend is that rare occasion when you could see movies at every Westwood theater in one day… 12:00 Shutter Island (Village), 2:30 Wolfman (AVCO), 4:50 The White Ribbon (Regent), 7:30 Crazy Heart (Crest), and 10:00 Valentine’s Day (Bruin). Why am I posting this? No real reason, other than I wish I could be there doing it right now… could be a fitting farewell to the Village and Bruin if they do end up going dark.

And AMC has a few single screens, mainly in NYC. But I’m pretty sure they were most all picked up from Loews.

Yep. All the Insomniac Cinema shows through March and beyond have been moved to Pasadena. It’s sad that it had to go (at least in terms of regular operations) this way — no one last farewell for those who wanted it.

Danny Baldwin commented about TCL Chinese Theatre on Feb 16, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Even the Westwood theaters have had better bookings! It’s pathetic, but I guess the logic is that tourists are the main audience for the Chinese anyway, so why do much more than is needed to please them…

So what’s next? BROOKLYN’S FINEST, one would hope. The Chinese usually doesn’t get Overture releases, but it doesn’t seem like securing this one (which skews a lot less indie and therefore less ArcLight) would be too hard.

I wonder if they’ll continue to use both projectors for 2D presentations like “Shutter Island” to provide a brighter image? That’d be great.

Yes, and unless they take in an Academy return engagement or a moveover next week, it’ll still be there. All three films are booked at ArcLight Hollywood.

ArcLight is getting “From Paris With Love”.

I’d say COP OUT is very likely given it’s WB. Whether they’ll get WOLFMAN or PERCY JACKSON in the meantime is anyone’s guess. Like HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU, VALENTINE’S DAY appears to be getting the ArcLight treatment even though it’s WB.

While the Fairfax is temporarily closed, the Academy will be running Regency’s midnight shows on Saturdays this month. Go check out “Stargate”, “Jurassic Park”, “The Karate Kid”, and “Adventures in Babysitting”. No word yet on whether the Academy’s cheaper pricing will apply.

Danny Baldwin commented about Fairfax Cinemas on Feb 2, 2010 at 1:20 pm

Looks like the Fairfax will be closed until at least 2/25. All the previously-booked Midnight shows up to that point have been moved to the Academy in Pasadena. While that’s a shame on its face, it might be a good thing that Regency is feeling out the market for Midnights in Pasadena. With the Rialto no longer operating, the area hasn’t had this type of show in the last few years. And if the Fairfax does indeed end up closing, then it would be nice to not have to lose ANOTHER theater showing older films on 35mm in Los Angeles.

Didn’t AVATAR have its premiere at the Chinese in 3D?

The Dome has been outfitted with a second 2k projector to increase brightness for 3D. It’ll probably still look dim, though…

Here’s a bit of a promotional video, posted to ArcLight’s Facebook, on the update: View link

The Village ran 3D with several films (most recently “The Final Destination”) and the screen sizes aren’t that different.

Here’s something unexpected: Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” will open this Friday at the Chinese. While I doubt it will do very well there, it’s good to see the Chinese finally playing a supposedly GREAT movie again.

When “2012” goes to the Crest and “New Moon” goes to the AVCO, you know Mann has given up on their Westwood houses.

Anyone know how to get the coming week’s features for the South Bay before Thursday night when they go up online and to the phone-line? The current system is a drag.

For the Grove to not play all thee of those films would be a stretch… something tells me the site’s “Coming Soon” is a uniform image feed from the Rave server, given it looks just like the one on the Rave site. We’ll see in a matter of weeks, though.

Looking at the “Coming Attractions” on the website is interesting. If the graphic is right, they will be getting “Surrogates”, “Fame”, and “The Invention of Lying” on their respective release dates, meaning this could transform into a first-run site.

… and now, four hours later, the “Rave Motion Pictures” brand and all the DLP subheadings on MovieTickets.com are gone. Would be interested to hear from anybody who goes today if anything has changed.

Showtimes are now live on MovieTickets.com.

SIX of the auditoriums are equipped with digital projection as of today. There are no REAL D capable units as of now.

Will be interesting to see if they plan on making a full conversion.
