I saw Connie Francis perform here Wednesday night in a benefit concert for the Variety Club. I cant tell you how beautiful and large this theatre is. My friend and I were laughing that they could put 20 shoebox theatres just in the lobby space alone.
The Belvedere was restored by Erna Friedricks for her clothing store. When she died another store took it over and then it was a flea market for a very short time. It was never used for a gym or catering. You may be thinking of the former Acme which for 20 years was a catering hall called the Victorian House.
One of the projectionists who worked at the Rugby told me some incredible stories about how violent this place got at the end. He would lock himself in the booth and always pray there was not a riot inside.
I was thinking about this, there was another theatre on the other side of Route 9 that also played XXX, but I think that was the one that was torn down. It was a free standing building. I think you may be right that Cinema 9 is there without the big marquee on the street.
Thanks Debbie, theres another theatre right in the same vicinity on Route 9 that also shows XXX. That must be the one I am thinking of thats still open. Do you know the name?
Thanks for the address, I will drive by and see if the building is still there.

Does anyone know what the name “inflight” refered to?
We are in a weird place in the business when a 10 year old mega=plex is closed.

Exactly about two blocks away. I went to St Pancras but it was already the Victorian House by then.

Does anyone know what the marquee is saying?
The above should have said “what a great marquee”
Whay a great marquee.
I think this was opened for a few years after RKO by an independant. They used to show triple horror and kung-fu bills.

I found an old listing for a theatre in Bayshore called the Encore. Does anyone know anything about it?

Although the title suggests an art house, it seems the last few years B action movies played here.
My friend told me the theatre was open last week when he went by, is this true?

I would love to be involved with a group to save this like the group did for the Loews Jersey City.
I show a listing from 3/14/80 that the theatre was showing adult films. Is this what was there when it closed?
This is a great old Marquee, it would look awesome all relit with new neon.
My friends mother was just talking about all the times she went to this theatre in the 60’s.
