It was not the Rivoli, which was split up and down. Suprisingly UA never let the Rivoli run down, it was kept up to the end. I think you may have seen it on a moveover at the Embassy 2-3-4. I believe it first opened at Loews State.
The Jackson may find this increses their box office numbers. This house like the Ridgewood is getting pretty run down and alot of people may drive to other areas to see films. Believe it or not the psychos who owned the Westbury ran some of the Paramount titles with Spanish subtitles. Who they were trying to attract there is a mystery.
I feel like writing a screen play about this once great theatre and the insane couple who ran it into the ground, but who would believe it.

That was suprising about Cinema Latino, did anyone hear how the Asian Imagine theatre is doing?
Even though Gemini means twins they should have just called it Gemini Cinemas, I loath the name of it now.
Without the marquee tear the facade down too, who cares.
This page is becoming another Ridgewood Folly, lets move on to something interesting like the Westbury. :)
I always loathed names like 62 & Broadway Cinema, why cant they use names.
I think Lace is the Old Cine 1 & 2
So we need to add a listing for Merrick Mall Cinema.
I remember the wall.
Maybe longislandmovies or Orlando can shed some light on the closing.
This sounds like it was a great place.
The movie only played at the deadest time
I was at the Chinese a few times but never saw a movie in the old twin. Thanks for sharing the pics.
When I had this theatre the midnight shows were outgrossing the regular films reciepts. We did very well with a 3-D festival that we repeated twice.
It has always suprised me that Roosevelt Field has better food served then Loews Raceway.
Great story bobmc :) I actually still use my Super 8 camera and projector.
Merideth
I always thought this was Garden City also but am told it’s Westbury. The Garden City location would sound much more prestigious if it were.
This is so unusual why would they remove the balcony?
They should move all of this to the Roxie or that little porno theatre which I cant remember the name of. That would be a good way to restore it.
Kurt Brenner had a few theatres in the old days including Bellmore The Movies.

I wonder the real reason the Plaza is not open again. That was the Spanish subtitle house.
Thats a large amount of seats all on one level.

Sorry the above second link is the Paramount, not the Roxy. Here is the right one.
