I would love to find a complete list of all the original Jerry Lewis Cinemas. The only one I was ever in was the one that became the East Meadow Flick.
My friend who lived nearby said she does not think this theatre ever did real good business. Does anyone know? It was a very nice place and was well maintained.
Do you remember that marquee they had on the BACK of the theater that faced the mall? That always got to me as a kid…

That marquee is still there but another sign the place is going to hell is that a few months ago they stopped putting the titles up there. All it says now is welcome to the Green Acres Cinemas. This is so stupid because it was free advertising to all the thousands of mall visitors.
Does anyone know in the days before computer box office systems how theatres with multiple box offices kept track of the seats left to sell? Was it as simple as doing the tally and calling each other?

I was there over the summer and although it was still clean there were many signs things were not being kept up. The candy stand only used one out of four stations and they did not even bother to make the other stations look decent. The show cases were just empty. They also did not have as much concession item’s as most theatres. The auditorium I was in had most of the runway lights burned out and alot of the theatre lights were dead. I checked out upstairs and that candy stand looks like it has not been used since the Cineplex days. As a former theatre manager this always suprises me. For the small amount it pays to have another concession person, you can make this up in a few sales. Also having a person behind the counter upstairs prevents vandalism. This was a top rate house in it’s single days when it used to play exclusives, I have a load of great movie memories there.
The Green Acres Cinemas is so much nicer then this one. Sadly NA is letting it get run down. They do book the more upscale features here, but when you start seeing hand printed signs hung on walls it’s not good.
I know this corporate sponsor naming brings in some much needed cash, but It’s vulgar. At least calmer heads prevailed and the Winter Garden was able to keep it’s original name with Cadillac tacked in the front. The city has now announced it wants to sell corporate naming of subway stops like Xerox 18th Street and Summers Eve Delancy Street.
Does the Ridgewood Theater still have some of it’s original walls showing? What I mean is, for example, the orchestra level is cut in half – does the outside wall still have the original ornamentation, and the new wall just plain painted sheetrock?
What about the ceiling in the balcony theaters? Are any of the old railings on the stairways still there?

The two outer walls of the orchestra have the original walls showing. The wall that divides the house is blue sheetrock with white soundboard (remember how popular that look was in the plexes of the 70’s and 80’s). The underside of the balcony shows the original fixtures. Upstairs all of the old ceiling still shows.
Yes this is the one. It was a great twin because it was constructed that way. The multi-plexing of this theatre was one of the most bizarre of any theatre. It had weird hallways that zig zagged all over. Another theatre not listed yet is the old UA Hicksville Twin.
I have the old theatre listed as it’s original name Fox Plaza North & South. It did not get the other name for a few years after Fox pulled out of the place.
This may be a dumb question but why does one side of the marquee not have the script Riviera name on the top? On that side it’s where the attraction titles should be.
Any update on this theatre?

I drove by this theatre once after landing at the airport. I wanted to go inside because the outside looked so 60’s.

What a shame, I was only in this theatre one time when it was single screen. What a great house it was.

Yes thats it
Do they call this movieland? I was not aware, the marquee just says UA Theatres and moviephone called it the Yonkers.
I remember the houses being very large in the begining. I have no idea what it’s like now, I have not been here since the early 80’s.

Does it have draped screens?

Wow who was going to run the Demille as a dollor house? Peter Ellison?
Obviously the El Capitan must be making money, why wouldent that work in New York?
