Does anyone know what time they give the daily tour? Would like to see this theatre Saturday before going to the film at the Loews Jersey City.

That’s a shame. The balcony section looks as big as the orchestra. Hope someday I can see a film there.

I have been to this great theatre several times. Are there any plans to open the balcony seating area any time soon?

The Colisuem orchestra was never used as a seperate theatre. They were also able to close the main entrance because the theatre had a seperate balcony entrance. I checked with some neighborhood people about that.

In the Brooklyn section of today’s NY Daily News there is a nice picture of the balcony of this theatre. Is that what it looks like now?

They have covered all of the exterior with new brickwork and have put new windows in the side of the building. Very soon there will be no way to tell that this bulding was a movie theatre for over 50 years.

I believe the Montauk at 2001 Bath Ave. was torn down around 1928 and the Deluxe movie theatre was built at the same location.

They could just call it The Marboro Multiplex. I just hope they buid it.

I was right. I thought they would demolish and start from scratch. Given the condition of this theatre its the right way to go. It will be great to see films in the neighborhood again in 2006.

One of my favorite theatres is the “Loews” at this multiplex. With its interior decor, balcony and large screen. (I believe its the widest in NY) you almost feel like you are in a classic film palace of the past. Several years ago they had a classic film series in this theatre and I saw “The Adventures Of Robinhood.” What a great place to see that film in.

I believe it was twinned. I saw some movies there in the late 80’s. The afternoon shows cost 4 dollars.

I saw Return of The Jedi at the 86th st. before it was demolished. Was this theatre similer to the 83rd st. Loews that was replaced by the 84th st. one?

Someone should call Regal and find out if they plan to demolish the entire structure and rebuil from scratch. That might explain why nothing has been done to keep people out.

Maybe Regal is just going to demolish the entire block of buildings including the Marboro and build a new theatre from scratch. I would think this would be the best way to go considering the state of the Marboro.

The ticket booth was in the lobby when I went there. (Early 60’s to when it closed) I think the booth was always in the lobby.

Its funny. I went to the Deluxe and the Oriental in those days also I really do not remember matron problems at those two theatres. I am not sure if the Deluxe even had a matron. But I sure remember the matron at the Benson. RonS is right. I bet they all became meter maids!

2 years is a long time. I will believe it when I see it. One problem with that location is there is no place to put a parking lot or garage. I know the subway is 2 blocks away and a major bus route (B6) stops there but most people like to go by car. I do hope they build it.

I have heard about this theatre. Is there anyway to get there using public transportation?

You would think they could have booked something special if they were only going to be open for the weekend. Or at least announce that they were closing on Sunday. I had planned to go on Thursday even know I did not really want to see the “Village.” Lets hope the Ziegfeld stays open but I always felt the Astor was a better theatre.

I saw Titanic there on April 15,1998. It was the late show and the theatre was fairly empty but what a great theatre to see that film in. Sound and picture were great. It’s too bad they couldn’t bring back some classic films like Star Wars or Titanic for the Astor’s last week instead of the village. I bet more people would have come for those films.

I remember that matron also. She was some piece of work. Sometimes when the theatre was empty my friends would split up and sit at opposite ends of the adult section. When she came around we would move to the other side. Sometimes we could tire her out and she would stop bothering us.
