How did you manage an internal pic? I wrote to the head office of United Carpets asking permission for a no risk (to them) visit to take pictures and they turned me down flat!
Isn`t it strange how the building seems to have shrunk in its new use? The Capitol looked much bigger when it first opened. Shame the tower fin has gone.
I am listening to this organ as I write in the capable hands of George Welling and I have to say that this is one of the brightest, attacking of these Granada Wurlitzers that I have heard. So glad to see that it is still with us and not far from me too!
The facade was arranged so that a possible cafe could be built behind it but alas this never materialised. I have a photo somewhere of this cinema when closed and will upload when I locate it.
I have just remembered, the cinema in question was the Forum and whilst I can`t say for definite that this was the one used in the film I do know that the console design of the organ was the same. Can anyone enlarge on this?
OK it`s not a cinema any more but you have to admire the wonderful restoration job done by the JWs.
Hi all, does anyone know if the ODEON clocks are still in place? Will travel and pay good money if anyone can locate one for me.
Does anyone know what became of the 2 manual 9 rank WurliTzer organ from here? Good luck to all trying to bring this cinema back to life.
Under imminent threat of demolition once planning is accepted.
A chap on Facebook marketplace is selling parts of this organ now!
You must have been stood exactly where I was to take this photo.
Have just read that this cinema/bingo hall is to be demolished for a new development, flats I think. Sad loss.
I have just seen a video of the Ritz
s demolition and it was heart breaking. We
ll never see the like again.Nice, small and unobtrusive, why couldn`t they have left this bit?
Ian, would it be possible to buy prints of your photos of this cinema?
Big, solid and standing proud, I love it.
Anyone who takes on an historic building for whatever purpose should be made to maintain it in good order.

This was a beautiful cinema and a tragic loss. So young too.

Would love a good mooch around this one.
Yet another art deco cinema is lost.
This was a lovely place and I think a new building for the jovos of questionable design arose on the site. Whatever, a sad loss like so many others.

At least it hasn`t been “butchered” inside which is a small mercy. All we need now is a kind hearted eccentric millionaire – ya know one?

I sold one of these on Ebay recently, is this it? lol
Sorry but what became of the Conacher organ? None too many of them about even in the heyday.
