no the theatre itself is used for parties when the MASTERS comes in APRIL, a BIG BALLROOM.
Demolished?
thanks NICK…Sent you a bunch of theatre pictures this week.
That’s great Mike I have seen it.
My NATIONAL HILLS THEATRE page has taken off big time the local newstalk radio has mentioned it twice…on FB.
oh no, nothing could replace CT, it was just a tribute to my old theatre, the locals here i tell them about cinematreasures but never notice many of them posting on here.i hope they don’t mind, did one for cOLUMBIA 1 and 2 and GA.SQ.MALL Cinemas places i have worked..
NATIONAL HILLS THEATRE is now on facebook plez join if you wish..
we were all excited about dolby, i have NATIONAL HILLS THEATRE on Facebook, much like this but more pictures and newspaper ads..hope you doing okay, theatre buddy.
Hey Mike, When the Hillsboro in Tampa was twinned in 1978 they installed Dolby Stereo in one twin. “SUPERMAN” was the opening attraction and the sound was fantastic…crisp sharp highs and deep low bass. The best I had ever heard in a theatre at the time (except for Cinerama 7 track stereo.) Though many will disagree I still believe the original Dolby Stereo sounded just as good as today’s high-tech state-of-the-art systems.
found an old ad “SUPERMAN” did play here, later after the first run, made a big deal about DOLBY SOUND on the ad…
was talking to one of the remainging projectionist and he told me something i don’t think i knew. National Hills was suppose to be a Dimension 35 theatre.
finally located another old employee Donna Glass, told me the story how she ran into a door there and got stiches in her head,,,sounds like the old days,we played hard, but the moviegoer always came first, with ushers and doormen, those long gone.sadly.
“TELL THEM WILLIE BOY IS HERE” plays one week tying in with ROBERT BLAKES TV COP show.It was several years old when we played it in 74 or 75.
Yes, they did,But don’t forget that screen and 70mm presentation..
My favorite memory of this theater is that the seats rocked.
or better yet check out REMEMBERING PLITT THEATRES.on FB.
japatters any time a memory comes up add it here..lol.or any of our theatres, did you ever go out toSouthside Cinema. If you go to my facebook page i have many pictures from these theatres,ads,newstories.etc.enjoy.
Excited to read through these scribes. My most impactful memory…being a virgin girl from south Augusta to visit fancy NHills to watch “Basic Instinct” with new beau. Oh, gees. Balcony(?) cover was not enough. Wanted to crawl under the seat. Scrolled through scribes and saw “koi pond.” Remember that pond. Mention of NHills theater made me remember that I got my first pair of hiking boots (had to buy from boys' section) at JB White’s in 1996, compliments of my grandmother. Wow. CT has really resurrected some memories. THANK YOU! Wish I had more to contribute than nostalgic recollection. Now…on to Regency Mall and that fancy cinema that got built behind there…
This opened on November 18th, 1966. Grand opening ad in photo section.
From the Augusta Chroncile, dec 30 2011,augustachroncile.com,what is left of my National Hills theatre,Mainly that huge theatre is being converted into a 8.000 sq.ft. Ball room.and convention center,Being across from the Augusta National, home of the MASTERS,you can bet it will be used once a Year, and sit lifeless the rest of the year, What a waste,Called “THE LEGENDS CLUB” it won’t be open for regular folks.
trey, check out REMEMBERING PLITT THEATRES on facebook, several theatres from ATl and Augusta are on.
thanks trey.
