The Trail Drive-In was opened February 21, 1952. It closed when a fire destroyed the screen on June 11, 1971. This one was leveled many years ago.

IT was owned by P.E. Smith in 1956 according to the 1956 motion picture Almanac.He owned the SUNSET Drive in too.
Looks like there are several spots on Littlefield Hwy that could have contained a drive-in, due to the scars on the ground. Just a few blocks from each other too….
Odd the adverts don’t list any kind of address or directions.

P.E. Smith, who owned the Trail, the Sunset, and the Tech Theater (there were probably more in the Smith Theaters chain), was later the governor of Texas—Preston Smith. He got his start as a Tech student in the 1930s working for local theaters.

According to old maps, this one was located where the current LP&L Training field is at, at the corner of Clovis and Indiana
You can still see the imprint of a few of the ramps, but most of the property is covered by a substation and a sea of power lines and poles.
