Valley Drive-In

Boxoffice magazine reported on Noember 1, 1965: “Tri-State Theatre Services is to book and buy for the new Valley Drive-In, nearing completion at Frankfort, Ky., owned by H. Vaughn Cox.” The February. 21, 1966 issue ran a two-page on the new Valley Drive-In, a “Ballantyne All-In-One Package Job”; the company provided all planning, construction, and equipment for the 650-car drive-in.

A 1972 topo map showed a drive-in not present in the 1968 map, on the east side of then-US 127. The drive-in was gone by a 1985 aerial photo. Its entrance was at modern-day 709 Holmes Street, and faint ramp patterns are still visible today.

In addition to the outline, entrance, and ramps, the projection booth/concession stand is still standing. Although the building is falling apart. Plus, the foundation of the screen is still present as well.
