Opened in 1910 as the Americus Theatre, this small theatre was located on W. Ogden Avenue near S. Trumbull Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood, not far from Douglas Park. In 1929 it was renamed the Lawndale Theatre, then the New Americus Theatre. On September 12, 1932 it was reopened as the Lindy Theatre with Billie Dove & Clive Brook in “Sweethearts and Wives”.
Not to be confused with the Lindy Theatre on W. Madison Street which has its own page on Cinema Treasures, this Lindy Theatre operated until 1950. It has since been torn down.

An ad in the Chicago Tribune, Friday, September 12, 1932, announces that the new Lindy, opens today at 6 pm, 3437 Ogden, with Billie Dove and Clive Brook in “Sweethearts and Wives.” Everything New!
pardon me, for the time being ths misplaced entry’ll have to do, but,
there was another theatre on Ogden Ave a few blocks east of the Lindy, not yet mentioned on this site or anywhere
and it was called The Ogden, in the 2700 W. block, northside of street and that’s specific as I can be at the moment
(yes I’m aware there was another Ogden Theatre over on 63rd St)
In “IMAGES of AMERICA- CHICAGO’S JEWISH WEST SIDE” by Irving Cutler, there is a great shot of the Lindy’s marquee on page 89.
