The Plaza Theater was a 50-foot by 125-foot vaudeville and moving-picture theater on the west side of Broadway near Sixteenth Avenue. Construction of the fireproof 600-seat theater was announced in March 1919. Mid-City Realty Company financed the project. Chicago architect David Saul Klafter, who’d designed several small Chicago theaters, prepared the plans. Venus Amusement Company, which operated the theater at some point, sold it to the Bikos brothers in October 1927. It was destroyed by fire in 1931.

The 1932 Film Daily Year Book shows the Plaza Theater as closed on January 1, 1932. There is no FDYB entry after 1932, though in 1933 the Plaza Theater Corp. was formed and may have briefly reopened the theater in April 1933.

The Plaza indeed closed in 1931 because the building was razed by a fire. In September 1932 plans for a new $40,000 theater to be built on the site of the old Plaza were announced by local businessmen Andrew and John Konrady, who in November incorporated the Konrady Theater Corp. The Plaza Theater Corp. was formed in March 1933, a new Plaza opened in April, and the theater was transferred to F.M. Randolph in May 1933.

Denverpalace if a new Plaza was opened in April 1933 it’s not listed on CT. Also I looked at the other 27 theatres listed in Gary and see nothing which would correspond to a 1933 opening on either Broadway or 16th Street.
