The first Theatre Catalog drive-in list, in the 1948-49 edition, included the Alfresco Drive-In, 2 miles north of Burley, capacity 350, owner I. H. Harris of Harris Voeller Theatres, Inc. The Alfresco Drive-In was opened on May 19, 1948 with Jeanne Crain in “Centennial Summer”.

Boxoffice reported on June 17, 1950, “BURLEY, IDA. - George Price built an addition to his Price Drive-In building here (a cafĂ©) to house a frozen custard machine.”

A 1966 topo map showed a drive-in just north of the Snake River, which splits modern-day Burley. A 1992 aerial photo showed the concession building and ramps intact.

Today, the site sits just east of the Century Stadium 5 indoor theatre. Hints of ramps are still visible.

I don’t know where that information about a “Price Drive-In” came from that was reported in Box Office, but this drive-in was always advertised as the “Alfresco Drive-In” up until 1988 when I would suggest it closed. The last newspaper ad was in July 1988 when they screened Crocodile Dundee 2.
