The Queen Theatre was opened on December 28, 1908. It was an early silent cinema in San Diego just doors away from the Grand Theatre. The theatre did well with the Keystone Studio comedies from 1913 to 1915 having been renamed Illusion Theatre on June 7, 1914. But the theatre struggled thereafter closing twice - briefly in 1917 before getting new owner A.F. Ahrens on December 13, 1919 who was buoyed by the opening of the San Diego & Arizona Railroad and took on the Illusion Theatre renaming it the Kinema Theatre. It was closed in 1924.
