Alpha Cinema

Opened in 1957 by film star Sabrina, it was designed by renowned Northern Ireland architect John McBride Neill and erected by Hogg Bros. It was later run by Mrs Allen who faced grief from protection racketeers. The building was damaged by fire in 1973, but later reopened as a bingo hall and Eastway Sports and Social Club. It was demolished by 2006 and the site is now occupied by a new Eastway club with a youth centre behind.

They had a chip shop around the side, used to go there for chips as a teenager in the 70s. The cinema was closed by then.
