Valley Drive In - Newpaper ad from 1978

The Joy Drive-In was opened in 1956.It was renamed Cactus Drive-In on March 1, 1957, with promotions such as ‘Foreign Cars or Chryslers Admitted Free’, or during the run of “The Rose Tattoo", ‘Anyone with a Rose Tattoo Admitted Free’. By 1974 the theater showed up in the listings as the Valley Drive-In, operated by E&W Theaters, but after 1977 there was no mention of it in the local news.

The listed newspaper address in 1963 was 13000 Cave Creek Road, with old aerials showing the entrance at Sahuaro Road. The location of the screen was approximately where O’Reilly Auto Parts parking lot is located today.

It looks like this was actually originally called the Joy Drive-In, it was advertised under that name in 1956.
