Located in Braintree, Essex, the Central Picture House opened in mid-December 1921. It had a capacity of 625-seats located in stalls and circle levels. It had stage facilities and dressing rooms and also a rea room for refreshments. It became the Central Cinema at the end of September 1925 when it was taken over by Metropolitan Electric Theatres, presenting variety on the stage as well as films. In July 1927 it was under the ownership of Shipman and King Cinemas Ltd. It was closed in 1957. It became a Tesco supermarket. In September 1998 the building was occupied by a retail outlet named Townrow which closed in 2017.
