The Cinema 4 first appeared in the Independent Theatre Guide of the Los Angeles Times in March 4, 1983 as the Sunny Cinema 4. It was so named because it was located in the community of Sunnymead in Moreno Valley. In the 1980’s Moreno Valley was one of the fastest growing cities in Riverside County and the Cinema 4 was the first of what would eventually be five theaters. All but two theaters are closed now and the Cinema 4 building is just another storefront in an aging strip mall.

In the late-1990’s the theater was listed in the International Motion Picture Almanac as being operated by Cinemark but dropped out of Almanac after 1991. The last time it was mentioned in the Riverside Press-Enterprise as open was in December of 1995. It has been occupied by various businesses since then.
