Coronet Theatre exterior

The Paradise Theatre was opened on November 11, 1938. In 1941 it was taken over by Odeon. It reopened as the Coronet Theatre on July 8, 1964 with Peter Sellers in “The Pink Panther”, still operated by Odeon, a year after they acquired the former Plaza (thereafter Odeon) Theatre just up Granville Street, the Coronet Theatre could seat just under 790.

The theatre was twinned on April 9, 1976, and continued to operate for another decade, before the Coronet Theatre was shuttered in 1986.

This theatre was incorporated into the Cineplex Odeon Granville 7 which opened around 1987 and is still operating. It’s one of only 2 left on the old theatre row (the other is Famous Players Capitol 6)

The above picture is great. I am amazed all the verticals were still there in 1970. New York got rid of most of them by the late 50’s. A shame they lit up the street so well.

How much of this theater was “incorporated” into the Granville 7? This site shows some architectural detail from the Coronet. I would like to see a photo of the Granville as it looks today.
