Open ~1945-~1955? Can anyone verify the exact dates?
Could use more of an address.
More info and photos are always welcome.
The old Chatham Theater has not been demolished. It has not been used as theater in over 35 years however. Pittsylvania County owns the building now, but I am not sure how they use it.
There is good street view on Googlemaps, but I cannot figure out how to transfer the photo here. It is located not on Main St., but Chatham Hall Circle about one block off Main St. It is easy to identify as an old theater. From overhead it is easy to spot as well, since it is a quonset hut, still painted green. The front is white stucco.
Found this on a Chatham Town Website. The Chatham Theater, as pictured, was not on Main Street, it was on a side street. I went there in the 1960’s once or twice.
19 Pruden Street (9/2006). The old Chatham Theatre, built during the 1940’s as a massive Quonset structure, is currently used by the Pittsylvania County government.
Google Maps is unable to find this location whether one uses the old address of 19 Pruden Street or the modern address of 19 Chatham Hall Circle. I’ve adjusted the street view to the proper location, but the pin icon is quite some distance north of the theater’s actual site.
Hi we currently occupy this building. It no longer has an official street address. The building was used for storage since at least Jaws was released. It will be renovated and turned into our innovation and design center.
The address, according to Google Maps, is 14 Pruden Street, about a block off Main Street.
