Studio One was a film club organized by westerners living in the British Colony of Hong Kong in the early-1960’s.

According to an article written by the 1982 Chairman of the Studio One Terry Boyce, the Studio One was officially registered as a limited company on 2nd March, 1962 with an executive committee consisting of Mark Broiles, Desmond J.Byrne, William Doward, Patricia Gartley, Patricia Penn, John Pirie, Geoffrey J.Ridge and Michael Talbot. The first night of the Studio One was at the City Hall Theatre with " Rome, Open City"
and "Aparajito".

Its main showing venue was the City Hall Theatre in the Central district on Hong Kong Island, with alternative venues at the Hong Kong Arts Centre Shouson Theatre and the Auditorium of the French International School[Secondary]at Jardine’s Lookout on the Hong Kong Island.

The 20th Anniversary Film Gala of the Studio One was held at the City Hall Theatre from 17th December, 1982 through 19th December, 1982 with the following films:" La Dame Aux Camelias"[35mm edition], "The Thirty Nine Steps"[16mm edition], "Gallipolli"[35mm edition], "Citizen Kane"[16mm edition], "Man of Iron"[16mm edition], "The Battleship Potemkin"[16mm edition], "The Third Man"[16mm edition], "Jules et Jim"[35mm edition], "Der Blaue Engel"[16mm edition], "Dersu Uzala"[16mm edition], and "Belle de Jour"[16mm edition].

With the gradual popularity of video tapes, laser discs, VCDs and DVDs, artistic films or high brow commercial films as selected and shown by the Studio One in the 1960’s through the 1980’s could be easily available in any format, the Studio One finally closed its door in the 1990’s.
