The 13-screen Showcase Cinema de Lux was the third of the company’s luxury multiplexes to open in the UK.
It opened on 26th September 2008. Two of the 13-screens are Directors Hall’s, with extra luxury and services. It was closed on November 30, 2023.

I really hope this cinema doesn’t spell the end for the fantastic Odeon in the city centre.
I am not a great fan of multiplexes but this one is brilliant ..visited recently very clean comfortable foyers and screens esp Directors Hall…Odeon take note!!
Have to admit this is my Go To multiplex in Bristol. Love the seats, sound, picture, and the fact that you can relax in the bar before or after the film. Easy access from home by bus and loads of shopping and restaurants to hand.
I visited Screen 4, one of the medium size auditoria. It had an impressively sized wall-to-wall Scope screen and together with the black matte walls making the auditorium very dark during the film, I found it an excellent place to see a movie in; I was impressed.
Speaking to the duty house manager afterwards, he told me that all the auditoria had Scope screens. Looking into some of the screens near Screen 4, that was generally true but Screen 5 (a smaller one) was showing a Scope film letterboxed onto a 1.85 screen.
Sadly this is not the first time that a cinema manager has told me incorrect information about his own cinema. Whether he knew or was just fobbing me off, I can only surmise.
It has been announced that the cinema will close on November 30th. https://www.bristol247.com/culture/film/city-centre-multiplex-cinema-close/
The reason for the closure given was that Showcase and the site owners had not been able to agree a new lease. Showcase stated that whilst business had imoproved post Covid, it was still not back to the pre Covid levels (possibly, I presume, because this is a city centre site).
If the site owner wished to increase the lease amount, then one can see that this becomes a problem for Showcase. Result – the cinema will close. A great pity as I found it an excellent cinema.
