Lyric Theatre

The Lyric Theatre was a second-generation theatre meaning built after the advent of “talkies” and before Cinerama. Both the Columbia Lyric Theatre and Princess Theatre were, according to one journal, “spacious and commodious with every facility of modern equipment”. Unfortunately, the Princess Theatre was destroyed by fire in 1949 and the Lyric Theatre folded three years later.

Would be great if anyone has some pictures of these theatres, interior or exterior.

Here is a photo from 2005 of what remains of the theatre. The interior has been completely overhauled and am uncertain as to what modifications were made to the exterior.

Oh, wow.. thanks, Jack. I think that is next door to what used to be ‘Bert’s Dress Shop’, all of this across from ‘Lucille’s Restaurant’.

I grew up in Columbia. Worked at the Polk, then the Polk Cinema I & II, and the Sundown Drive In.
