Woolton Picture House to close

The opening date of the Woolton on Boxing Day 1927 was just a guess.
It might not have opened until March 1928.
It was also said by the same person (I think) that David Wood’s grandfather (J F Wood) opened the Bedford in Walton on Boxing Day, 1908. That, too, is wrong. Both the Bedford and the Kensington Picturedrome in Liverpool opened at the same time. The plans of both purpose-built cinemas were approved in August 1910. The Kensington opened on Boxing Day, 1910, but unfortunately the day the Bedford opened wasn’t recorded.

SAVE WOOLTON CINEMA CAMPAIGN
We are a dedicated team who have put together a campaign to save Woolton Cinema. We already have masses of local support and have publicised our campaign on local television, radio and in the papers. We have been pledged donations and collected hundreds of signatures.
We held a public meeting last night, a local councillor was there to speak in support of us, and we were overwhelmed by support.
