The Colonial: Slowly Coming Back to Life

CANAAN, CT — According to a recent report from the Litchfield County Times, restorations are slowly bringing the Colonial Theatre back to life.

For the first time in six years, the Colonial’s newly restored marquee shined brightly during the holiday season. And the building also received a fresh sandblasting, removing age-old grime and paint.

Additional work is planned for 2004, and the current owners hope to reopen the theater sometime in 2005. “If it is operational, it won’t be until the end of the year and possibly into next year,” she said. “We are hoping to get some grant money in the middle of the summer that will help with the interior work-doing the floor, the bathrooms, etc.”
