October of 2000 was not kind to General Cinemas Corporation as the theater chain was closing theaters all over the nation. On October 10th, the GCC Ridgmar, the GCC Central Park and the GCC Arlington Park Square just behind the Parks Mall would get to post “theater closed” as the day’s only attraction. Of the three, the Arlington Park was the only theater to not be brought back to life as a movie theater. It would be taken over by the Arlington School District which repurposed the space.
