A sad case, just a few blocks from the Fox West Coast Chinese Theatre in Hollywood and It never made It as a movie theatre. People did not to walk up a few blocks more to see a movie. The tourists never went past Graumans Theatre. The old Galaxy Theatre building had some great neon plus THX 70mm and still stands today but no longer a cinema. It has been a gym, museum any many other businesses. The theatre was opened in Nov 1991 by General Cinema and closed as a movie theatre in 2003. Fox West Coast Theatres, Pacific Theatre along with Loews ran all the cinemas in the area and did not like a outside circuit coming into their territory. Still today in 2019 the Hollywood CA area is very under screened especially for art type movies. With all the tourists that visit Hollywood not one old cinema plays older films much except the Egyptian soon to be owned my Netflik. Time for some smart showmanship person to buy and re open the long closed Pacific Hollywood Warner Cinerama and show movies from the 1940’s up to the 1960’s now on DCP with cartoons, previews, newsreels, intermission trailers and reg trailers between movies plus have stage curtains that work. Just like the old days and I think the visitors old and young will come to watch something different. Thanks Riv for this classic ad.
I worked for GCC for 7 years. Could never figure out why they built this one in particular. Never easy top find an entrance. Lo ved seeing the opening ad…thanks.
